Hi i got the 652R any chance to get a snakeOS later compatible? any similar firmware like snakeOS compatible with that model?

Comment by perr...@gmail.com, Jun 22, 2010

USB WIRELESS ANTENNA & NS-K330 // I tried to establish a wireless connection between a NS-K330 ( with snake-os installed ) and a D-Link access point, using a USB wireless antenna attached to one of the USB connectors. I have checked with "dmesg" on snake-os and apparently the system did not recognize the antena device. Does anybody know a way ( some kernel module + pgm ) to achieve my intention? Thanks in advance.

Comment by karesk...@gmail.com, Jul 19, 2010

Is it possible to change ns-k330 cpu's clock? I believe that ns-k330 got 300MHz processor which is downclocked to 250MHz.

Comment by robyrei...@gmail.com, Oct 4, 2010

almost every seller says that these nas are not compatible with every printer. where can i find a list of compatible printers?

Comment by gschroedinger@gmail.com, Oct 9, 2010

@robyreiner Printer compatibilty

If that printer has an open-source driver or has a mode in which it emulates another printer that has such a driver (e.g. the old epson fx-80 emulation, postscript, pcl etc.), you should be ok.

For starters, check to see if it's compatible with linux, then check to see if the driver is totally open-source.

Please note that some printers may only offer linux x86 driver binaries (those don't work on ARM, so no go) and others might require special hardware adapters (e.g. a supported usb-to-serial or usb-to-parallel dongle) to work with usb.

One more thing to try: see if it can be connected AND you can find some program or algorithm that can convert PostScript? to whatever that printer needs. If all else fails, there could be a possibility to use that printer in ascii mode only (usually NOT useful, unless printing labels or instruction sheets or invoices or other text-only fixed format stuff).

Just to let people know I have had success with the Ritmo LN-86bt (bought at MSY, Australia) using the Snake OS firmware which is a helluva lot easier to use than the original craptastic firmware

server is set up as a print server for an epson R230 printer which the original firmware couldn't see. Even though I know the epson's have a disclaimer about printer servers on their site, I have had success with W7, xp and ubuntu clients

Had some problems with which device usb flash disk was recognised as due to built in flash card reader, but workaround is to use sd card for config and swap, which probably not ideal, but cheap so, meh.

I've decided to upload the firmware with de snakeos-V1.2.0-20100621-rom-original.zip but the NAS does not respond any more and is not accesible. I have uploaded the firmware (bin) and from there on nothing. Pleas someone can help me? Thanks

Comment by gsola...@gmail.com, Nov 6, 2010

Hi rla1981,

The same thig has happened to me, the reason is; (in my case) the new firmware has changed the MAC address of the device, and the default IP is not used, it takes the IP from DHCP. Then ckeck the leases from you DHCP server, I hope ou have one (or You can install one for windows or linux). The MAC for my device now start with AC:DE:48:....

Good Luck!

GSV

PD: Sorry for my english, is not very accurate.

Hi everyone,

I have the 652 model bought from ebay. I've already upgraded with the 1.3.2 snakeOS firmware from original and everything was working perfect. I tried to make te web interface accessible thru internet using DDNS and port forwarding frommy router where the device is connected. I changed the web interface port from 80 to 53 (cause on 80 there is another device), i filled all the fields regarding the DDNS an i clicke on save config. I; ve never succeded to make things happen but since then webinterface is not accessible even from browser locally. I ve reset it, unplug it but no result. The system led turns on and it seems that connects to the router cause i can see it thru the router menu DHCP clients list but when typing its IP in the browser only the logo appears and a win7 message that the page has a connection problem. Any ideas? thx in advance

I have to ask.. Is the IGRS Windrunner compatible with SnakeOS? http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.35359

I saw some comments that said it worked perfectly.. But I thought I should ask anyway. When I think about it.. this "Compatible Hardware" list seems outdated since it haven't been updated since June last year.

Just bought a 652 the other day, read about the original firmware not being reliable so opted for this. If you follow the instructions this is a doddle to upgrade. Looks nicer and seems easier to manage. Thanks for the development guys

Comment by PlexusMu...@gmail.com, Apr 11, 2011

I recieved my wlxkj652 from ebay the other day, tried to do the firmware upgrade and now no response from the device, apon further inspection the chip is a cns2132 (ECONA ARM9 processor) the board and the model number is exactly the same, there seems to be a bit of response from the device, i turn it on, then the system light blinks for a bit, the network lights up but no communication, i have run it direct connect and via a network switch, i have installed a dhcp server on my machine and run it both in linux and windows mode but still cant get any communication, looks like i may have bricked it

Greetings - which HW would you currently recommend to work with SnakeOS - mainly for rss BT downloads (1-5 simultaneous files Over 10GB ADSL), backup NAS and remote FTP access to a USB storage? Should be on 24/7 so a low power consumption is preferable... Gal

Is TP-LINK TL-PS310U USB compatible with snakeos?

Comment by ans...@gmail.com, Jul 15, 2011

I'm running Snake OS in my Ritmo LN-86BT (http://www.dealextreme.com/p/standalone-bittorrent-bt-downloader-usb-printer-sharing-network-lan-server-57591). It works fine and better than original, but i'm having problem with SSH and Telnet access. I've used a correct user/pswd and it always returns a Access Denyed error. Someone knows how to solve it? The access to Transmission is also too slow.

CodeTek? C2183 Disk? STR8183-1.59d Hardware Version : 0000 Speed 250MHz

Support for STR8183 devices? as it's just a digit away.. So doesnt seems to have much difference?

Comment by project member stefansc...@gmail.com, Aug 20, 2011

ans...@gmail.com: ssh works fine on my ritmo. try root/snake as user/password.

mhafizha...@gmail.com: http://mrtforum.memoriedigitali.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=933 According to that post the C2183 only has a 1mb flash. I think snake needs 4mb.

Comment by mhafizha...@gmail.com, Aug 20, 2011

stefansc...@googlemail.com: Yup, I did notice that, sadly..

Could programmers design maybe a 'Mini Customizable SnakeOS' only ment purely for other purposes that took maybe nearly a 1 Meg? Coz i dont need the use of USB Printers..

Maybe other options besides USB Printers? Additional USB Storage for flash Drive or RAM Use?

Just need:

Device, Disk, Services, System & Transmission. ( All under 1 Meg? Possible? )

Feel like doing some Charity.. ;)

Comment by project member stefansc...@gmail.com, Aug 21, 2011

Note: I've only had a snake os box for a month or so but I've been fooling around with the sources a bit.

Currently the boot loader is 256k and 960k for the kernel. So you'd be over the 1mb already with that alone. It might be possible to shave off enough to make both fit, but then the rest would have to be loaded off an usb stick or something. Sounds kind of awkward.

There would also have to be some way to get the thing onto the box in the first place.

Friends,

I tried to install the "snake-20101130-V1.3.2-from-original.bin" in my standalone BitTorrent?, but after uploading the file through the interface, I received the message page can not be displayed. Since then no more access, can anyone help me?

Comment by sat...@gmail.com, Dec 14, 2011

I upgraded to snake 1.3.2 and I don't have transmission. So I can't download torrents.

when I tried to upload opk I can't, because "the message page can not be displayed" It is the same when I tried to upgrade a firmware to a different firmware.

Can you help me?

Comment by solomonl...@gmail.com, Dec 23, 2011

Welland Netshare GX-752ANS has: Processor ARM CNS2183 Cavium Star this NAS works at SnakeOS? Sorry my english, I'm brazilian guy.

Comment by jpl_ferr...@hotmail.com, Jan 6, 2012

And what about NS-320U, Is compatible?

Comment by project member stefansc...@gmail.com, Jan 6, 2012

jpl_ferreira: One of the comments here indicates that it should work: http://code.google.com/p/snake-os/wiki/CurrentReleaseNotes

neodarkman2: I have another device with that chip (MRT G101). Unlike the cns2132 it doesn't have integrated ethernet. So snakeos would have to be rebuilt for whatever external chip they used. The G101 also has a tiny flash, which is another hurdle, don't know if yours is different.

Comment by jpl_ferr...@hotmail.com, Jan 6, 2012

Thanks for the info!

Comment by joaozi...@gmail.com, Feb 5, 2012

Works fine in NS-320U. I'm install miniDLNA and all works great!

Comment by neodarkm...@gmail.com, Feb 22, 2012

Welland Netshare GX-752ANS has: Processor ARM CNS2183-250-FP128-AEFA-G Cavium Star and more: it has 8Mbit flash memory Eon E25F80?-100HCP it has Ethernet 10/100/100 Gigabit provide from IC+ IP1001LF chip it has Sata Link SPIF225A-HL232 and RAM memory NANYA NT5DS16M16CS-5T... Is there SnakeOS running on this NAS?

Comment by project member stefansc...@gmail.com, Feb 28, 2012

neodarkman2: No, that's very similar to the MRT G101. The flash is too small. I only got snake to run on it via network boot .. but that's not really practical.

yangm97: Don't think so.

Comment by zepspa...@gmail.com, Apr 15, 2012
