S.M.I.L.E. - Generative Synthesizer

A simple generative music synthesizer built in Max/MSP created by Diego Caponera, Nicolò Paternoster and Giuseppe Sorce. It involves 5 FM generators which play notes randomly based on a root key and intervals defined by the user. It's an universitary project made for an exam for Sound's Science degree ( Math Department of Roma Tor Vergata ). It comes in two fashions:

SmileForLive (2011)

Latest stable version, port of S.M.I.L.E for MaxForLive. Original functionality, various optimizations plus new features:

  • Change notes with MIDI (from clips and/or controllers)
  • Switch Harmonic/Dissonant to avoid dissonant chords
  • Clock synced
  • Fully MIDI mappable
  • Store presets as Ableton presets

Needs Live 8.2.6+ and Max/MSP 5.1.9+

S.M.I.L.E. (2008)

The original standalone application. Needs Max/MSP 4.7.1+.
