What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. easy_install simplejson

Get the following error:
***************************************************************************
WARNING: The C extension could not be compiled, speedups are not enabled.
Failure information, if any, is above.
I'm retrying the build without the C extension now.
***************************************************************************
error: Setup script exited with error: can't copy 'simplejson.egg-
info\native_libs.txt': doesn't exist or not a regular file

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
* 1.9.1 & 1.9.2, on Windows Vista 64. Installed into clean virtual_env;
there is no corruption with other packages.

This is due to a setuptools bug: http://bugs.python.org/setuptools/issue9

simplejson could actually workaround the problem by deleting the native_libs.txt from its distributed .tar.gz's on
Cheeseshop, but that's totally lame.

If you want this fixed sooner or later, all I can suggest is to harass Philip J Eby to release a new setuptools with
the fix -- either on distutils-sig or that ticket =]

Note that the setuptools issue has been closed without a fix.

It appears a fix for the setuptools root cause has been committed
