I love it, it works perfect and it is simple.. btw if you can make it possible to change hotkeys it would be great.. thanks for the app

Comment by abuab...@gmail.com, Apr 19, 2010

Hi. Could be possible to hide/disable any menubar icon/text? It would be nice! Thanks a lot!

The software is great! very useful, clean, simple! works great. Thanks.

Comment by christop...@gmail.com, Apr 19, 2010

Love it! Fantastic. My request - if it would respect windows with drawers (like Textmate). Currently they end up off the side of the screen.

Anyway, great work!

Comment by Zero...@gmail.com, Apr 20, 2010

multiple monitor is a must. However, what you have right now is a God sent app that will increase my productivity

Comment by jef...@gmail.com, Apr 20, 2010

Loving it. Thanks for hte work.

Comment by bret.jor...@gmail.com, Apr 20, 2010

v2.0 REQUEST: Like SizeUp?... it would be nice to pad the edges of the windows. Allows for a clean layout. On that note, accounting for the doc position is a must.

Comment by shin...@gmail.com, Apr 21, 2010

Looks like something we want! Any chance of a PowerPC binary? My G4 isn't dead yet... :)

Comment by m.baumg...@gmail.com, Apr 21, 2010

Really nice. Maybe it's more usefull to put it in the systemprefrences. In my opinion there is no need to place it in the menubar.

Comment by hannes.p...@gmail.com, Apr 21, 2010

Hello Shift It Team! It's a really nice software! Thanks to you. My request: Bring application-window's in other spaces with shortcut. - The same function seen on GNU/Linux with gnome.

Comment by mikael.f...@gmail.com, Apr 21, 2010

This is cool! The comment about it being a System Pref sounds nice. No need to display anything.

Another sort of related keyboard / monitor issue. There used to be a utility waaaay back called Stepping Out (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_desktop#Mac_OS). It would be very cool if you could not only zoom in to enlarge but also zoom out to a virtually larger desktop (or combine several spaces to allow one app to span them).

Feature request or too wild?

Comment by project member aravin...@gmail.com, Apr 21, 2010

Hi All, Thanks for all your support. Shift It Team is listening to you! It has added support for multiple monitors and usage of Sparkle Framework to allow automatic updates to take place.

Due to the overwhelming response, we have released these two features in v1.1( they were expected to be released in v2.0).

Hope you enjoy using the application.

Thanks for you support,

Shift It Team.

Hi there,

Fantastic app! I use this feature a lot when Im working on a Windows 7 machine, and love that I can have the functionality in the preferred OSX now too... One request - something that Windows 7 does, is when you "dock" the window to the side of a screen by using a keyboard shortcut such as Option Command and Right (the equivalent shortcut in Windows - whatever it is), when you hit Option Command and Left, it returns the window to where it previously was before you docked it... Then hitting Option Command and Left again, docks it to the left side of the screen... Any chance this can be implemented? This would be perfect then!

Thanks

Comment by am.artf...@gmail.com, Apr 22, 2010

Option to save a window's current size and position would be great. Through this, you could allow users to have multiple shortcuts for custom window position/size. For example, CMD+OPT+(1-9).

For multi-monitor setups, should allow user to use an extra modifier key to specify which monitor.

Comment by jamz...@gmail.com, Apr 22, 2010

This looks like a great app can't wait to try it out. My request - option to hidden the menu icon - let it move windows between different workspace.

Comment by thatguyc...@gmail.com, Apr 27, 2010

Great tool. Would love it if the tool didn't place windows under the Dock.

Comment by project member aravin...@gmail.com, May 2, 2010

The icon is being made as we speak. It should be out in the next version of the app.

Comment by mr.fra...@gmail.com, May 7, 2010

So far I used Cinch for shift-to-left/right maximize feature.. I'd love to see besides the keyboard feature some mouse stuff :) So keep up the good work guys!

Comment by dchaws, May 18, 2010

Love this program. Suggestion: Replace the menubar text "Shift" with a smaller icon. Menubar space is very limited/important and "Shift" takes up a lot of room.

Personally, I downloaded the source code and changed it to simply "SI".

Comment by picha...@gmail.com, Jun 14, 2010

3 column?

Comment by Katai.T...@gmail.com, Jun 16, 2010

It would be nice to see an auto-tile multiple windows option.

Comment by OddBallB...@gmail.com, Jun 18, 2010

This is great! Exactly what I was looking for. I hope development goes well. I can see a bright future for this app. It took me forever to find though. Bout time we have a decent open source window manager for OS X. I'm willing to help in any way with development too.

Comment by mynameis...@gmail.com, Jul 25, 2010

Hey. I just learned about shiftit. You should add it on macupdate and/or iusethis (OSX) really. Anyways, here is my wishlist. 1. Return window to previous position, like what adgrimes described above. 2. Option to save and use custom window positions, like am.artform described above. 3. Move (with increments os say maybe 10 pixels) and grow windows in any direction (rather the built in OSX lower right corner resizing). 4. Window margins (or spacing if you will). By separating windows (just a few pixels) from each other (and optionally the screen border) you gain a much better overview of individual windows, and thus reduce clutter in your workspace.

Comment by noltes8...@gmail.com, Aug 2, 2010

I also vote for being able to resize windows in any direction. Perhaps using the keyboard shortcut of SHIFT+ALT+CMD+{ANY ARROW KEY} to resize it 10 pixels.

This might be difficult to predict though, since if the window is half screen size on the left, resizing with the right arrow key would mean grow to the right. But if the window were half size on the right, resizing with the right arrow key would probably mean shrink the left edge.

Comment by krikava, Aug 24, 2010

Thanks for all the effort, it's great!

Comment by Foos...@gmail.com, Sep 27, 2010

Really disappointing this is no longer in development.

Comment by selwyn.l...@gmail.com, May 12, 2011

Thus is an awesome app, and its amazing that it is available for free. It really restores my faith in mac coders!

One thing I would suggest is to add multiple monitor support. At present, the behaviour can be slightly odd on a second screen, especially if it is slightly offset from the first..

Great work though. Keep it up!

Comment by jfi...@gmail.com, Jun 2, 2011

It would be great if you could have a preset window size based on a shortcut. For example use a key board shortcut to resize the current window to 1024x768.

Comment by lincoln7...@gmail.com, Jun 10, 2011

I wish there was a way to minimize the window as well. Apart from that, this is a near flawless little app.

Comment by sampie...@gmail.com, Jul 4, 2011

Thank you for this app! Today (July 4th) a different window shifting app is free to download, so I gave it a try. One feature that I immediately miss in ShiftIt? is a 'restore' hotkey. Would that be possible in a future version? Thank you

Comment by ece...@gmail.com, Jul 17, 2011

Thanks for your works. It's really nice! How about plans for dealing with mouse gesture? in Windows 7, drag and drop in each corners of display is more convenient for me :)

Comment by ashca...@gmail.com, Jul 20, 2011

Love the app, was very easy to get in the source code and customize the keys and add a switch to left/right monitor shortcut.

Great work.

Thanks!

Comment by Skandoci...@gmail.com, Jul 21, 2011

It appears that maybe you guys aren't aware, but Filip Krikava and I picked up where this dev left off and developed it further on Github. Link here:

https://github.com/fikovnik/ShiftIt

Filip took the lead a while back and I stepped away but recently it has quieted down a lot so I might try and pick it back up.

This app is a must for every technical users on mac!

Can I suggest enabling users to configure the percentage of split (both horizontally and vertically)? Even if it is a hidden tuning knob in a config file will suffice. 50%-50% split is not always optimal. Thanks.

Comment by powerpl...@gmail.com, Aug 2, 2011

Great tool! I use it everyday now, can't live without it~! Can you provide a shortcut key to move window from one monitor to another ? That would be cool. Thanks~! Keep going~!

Comment by ibm...@gmail.com, Aug 3, 2011

Awsome app! It would be really useful if you could switch focus to different windows with this. For example command+control+left takes you to the window on the left.

Comment by upris...@gmail.com, Aug 19, 2011

Can you add restore windows size feature for the next version? Great app! Thanks

Comment by sunw...@gmail.com, Sep 4, 2011

Can we have shift window to other spaces shortcut?
