Project Information

This app is no longer being actively developed. I no longer own and Android phone and have moved on to other projects. It will still be available for download here and on the Android Market. Thanks!

Secure9 Mail is an email client built on K9 Mail v2.9. It adds 128 and 256 bit AES encryption, as well as key management and key agreement through the Diffie-Hellman protocol.

All keys/pins are stored on internal phone memory (not the SD card). Secure9 is the only app that has permissions to this storage location unless your phone is rooted (Root users, keep this in mind).

Secure9 Mail was started before APG was integrated into K9. However, I decided to keep working on Secure9, as it uses different encryption and key generation methods.

Secure9 Mail is now available for free on the Android Market.

Version 0.8.61 adds:

  • Diffie-Hellman generation bug fixed. Recommended that all keys be recreated after upgrade to 0.8.61

Version 0.8.6 adds:

  • Pins are now hashed using SHA-256 with secure random salts
  • Ciphertext base64 encoded
  • "New encryption key" window remote email field now utilizes the contact
list in the same way the "message to" text field does.
  • Lots of source code cleanup/optimizations

  • Minor bug fixes and usability improvements

  • Old pins will automatically convert to new hash standard
  • Old byte encoded emails will still be readable with base64 version 0.8.6.
