How To

This page briefly describes how you use the tool

Registration

There is no special registration page in Secunotes. If you are a first time user, simply login into it with the username and password you wish to use. It will either prompt you to create the new user or will say that the password entered is incorrect (this is the case you are trying to take an already existing username). Once you agree to create the new user, you will be taken to the main screen with your first note created:

General Rules

The biggest area on the screen is the note text itself, it is editable. The list of all your notes is to the right of it. Clicking on the entries in the list will update the contents of the current note, below is the password field that you may wish to change.

Things to mind:

  • Secunotes doesn't commit any changes to the server unless you press the Save Notes button. So if you've made any changes to your data, please be sure to save it before you leave the page.
  • The notes list on the right is sorted by it's view-date. So most recent and most frequently viewed notes are always on the top. This may be not so straightforward as alphabetical ordering, but I find this more convinient sort. Again, if you want it changed - please let me know.

Create new note

To create the new note, type it's name in an input field below the notes list. Clicking outside of the input field will commit the change and bring you to the newly created empty note.

Edit a note

Open any note you wish to edit by clicking on it's name and edit it. The contents are saved internally (on your PC) once you click outside the note edit field and are saved permanently (on the server) once you click the Save Notes button.

Rename a note

Double click or 2 consecutive clicks on the note name you wish to change will make it an editable field that you'll be able to update. Changes are commited once you click outside the input field. As always, don't forget to click Save Notes button to send your changes to server.

Delete a note

The red cross next to the note's name will do the job. Once you click the icon, it's name will become struck and the icon next to it will change to green tick. Clicking the green tick will reverse the deletion. The note is completely deleted once you click the Save Notes button and the data is sent to server without the struck notes.

Change password

Clicking on the password field below the note will change bullets to readable text so that you could see what you enter. The number to the left of the password changes with the length of your password. It shows you the encryption key length that will be used with your password. It may be either 128, 192 or 256 bits. The longer your password is the more secure your data is encrypted.

Saving data

Secunotes doesn't commit ANY changes untill you press the Save Notes button. This rule applies to edited notes, renamed notes, deleted notes, newly created notes and password changes. Please always mind to press the Save Notes button if you want your changes to be saved (or don't if you do not want changes to be commited).
