Quoddy is part of the ScrewPile suite of tools for building intelligent applications. The "short and dirty" summary is that Quoddy is an open source social-networking, intended for organizational use. It's not something you'd setup to compete with Facebook, but something you might install at your company, club, volunteer organization, church, etc. in order to let people connect and collaborate. Why "Quoddy?"We like lighthouses, so Quoddy is named after the famous West Quoddy Head Lighthouse. Ok, but what does it do?Quoddy is basically a sort of "mini Facebook" like social-networking interface. It builds on the APIs for social-graph management, activity-stream, activity profiling, tagging, etc. Provides the front-end for managing connections and for letting users provide information about themselves, their interests, etc. But unlike Facebook, no silly Pirates vs. Ninjas or Farmville stuff. Sounds good, can we see it?Here are some screenshots. It's all still very primitive looking right now, but we're focusing on the back-end services more than the UI at the moment. More pretty / fancy UI goodness will be along later. Quoddy hosting some OpenSocial apps (click for larger image): What language is this written in?Most of the code is written in Groovy which is basically an enhanced Java. It runs on the same Java Virtual Machine as any other Java app. Some of the code (mostly 3rd party code) is actually in Java. What kind of music does somebody listen to while writing something like this?Glad you asked... mostly Saxon, Iron Maiden, Kamelot, Motley Crue, Slayer, Iced Earth, Dokken, Borknagar, Dimmu Borgir, Children of Bodom, Gravedigger, Helloween, Savatage, Disturbed, Deicide, Armored Saint, Anthrax, Cinderella, AC/DC, Van Halen, Guns 'n Roses, Winger, etc. \m/ And drinking while you code?Coffee, lots of coffee. And Red Bull. And Monster energy drinks. And hot chocolate. Not necessarily in that order. Is there a Roadmap or something?See the Roadmap wiki page |
