RunningQuickSynergy (How-to configure and use QuickSynergy) Wiki page commented on by maxlaing   -   Oh - and color me silly, but shouldn't they make the execute button reflect something along the lines of 'Execute Share' and 'Execute Use' - or is that one of those secret 'linux' things like everything else in the 'not Windows' platform. It continues to feel like if you don't have access to a Captain Crunch Decoder Ring for every little thing you might want to do 'in' or 'to' the system you are out of luck. You are either part of the club or your out. This one little issue with QuickSynergy just further substantiates that feeling. Sorry for cranking off here, but seriously - the 'movement' wants folks to dump all things Windows and add to the numbers of Ubuntu/Linux - and I want that too. But were is the support? I feels like everything - AND I MEAN... ...E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G... ...is just a little left-of-center enough to confuse the ever-living-sh** out of those of us trying to leave the likes of Micro$oft - but where is the welcome mat? This button is just one more programmatic assumption that the rest of us just 'get it'. I think we can all agree - as evidenced here - that ain't so. I be quiet now. Just hate having wasted 3 friggin' hours scratching my head against a brick wall. Sincerely and without hesitation, Max Laing, D. MP CEO / Project Development ActionCore, Inc.

Except I have you beat by an hour (total 3 plus...) until I noticed your comment. You rock and thanks for posting!!! I should have come up with that one since I use CrossLoop so much. And speaking of which, I am super-new to Ubuntu. How do you get CrossLoop to run in the Linux environment? Any takers? Thanx again, Max

My thick head did not think it mattered.

issue 7 (Unable to set Relative Mouse Moves or Screen Saver Sync) reported by BrodyHasAnAccount   -   To use synergy with certain games running on a client machine, relativeMouseMoves must be set in the synergy.conf file. Currently quicksynergy overwrites this file each time execute is pressed. Attached is a patch file that contains mods to the settings tab to enable/disable relative mouse moves, and screen saver sync.

issue 2 (Peculiar Configuration help) commented on by christopher.ryan.thompson   -   I second the notion, but suggest perhaps an easier alternative that doesn't clutter the simple interface. I have a non-standard setup as well, and noticed that it seems as though the ~/.quicksynergy/synergy.conf file is written upon pressing the 'Execute' button. (Removing write privileges from the file crashes QuickSynergy upon execution.) My humble suggestion is to separate the writing configuration file(s) into a 'Save' button. That way the quick-and-easy spirit of QuickSynergy is preserved, and those of us with more advanced configurations can manually edit the configuration as necessary, while retaining a convenient way to launch synergy from a GUI.

issue 6 (Generated config file needs aliases section) reported by kopsis   -   Sharing on Mac OS X 10.5.8 ... On my system the server won't start because the hostname that the GUI app gets from the NS* APIs and puts in the config file doesn't match the hostname that the server gets from posix APIs. I was able to fix this by modifying the config file generation code in the GUI to include an alias section. My patch to do this is attached. So far it's working great on my machine :) BTW - Thanks for this great little app!

Any ideas would be appreciated.

issue 4 (synergys server deamon not started after Mac OS X awake ) reported by nicolas.cherel   -   Combined with the fact that QuickSynergy still display the 'stop' button in the share tab, it is a very bad combo What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Launch QuickSynergy for sharing on Leopard 2. Put the computer to sleep 3. Awake computer 4. clients doesn't connect 5. Press stop button, which will still display stop (Growl notifies "synergy started") 6. clients can connect now What is the expected output? What do you see instead? synergy daemon should be still running or at least relaunched when computer is awaken. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? v1.2 - Leopard

Enter the name of the client machine (the one without keyboard or mouse) in one of the directional boxes (In the client machine type "hostname" in a terminal if you don't know this) 3. Run Quicksynergy on client machine. 4. On the client machine only. Type the IP address of the Host machine in the Use tab. (To find your Host machine IP address type ifconfig in a terminal on the host machine -it should read something like: inet addr: 182.165.1.5) 5. Click the Execute button on the Host machine 6. Click the Execute button on the client machine 7. Move the mouse to the edge of the Host screen- it should now appear on the client screen
THis worked for me in Ubuntu(Host)/Zubuntu(Client) It's at all not clear how you should configure this program. However I got it running by following this http://www.linux-magazine.com/Online/Blogs/Productivity-Sauce-Dmitri-s-open-source-blend-of-productive-computing/Share-Mouse-and-Keyboard-with-QuickSynergy To paraphrase 1. Run Quicksynergy on host machine (the one with the mouse and keyboard you want to use) 2. On the Host machine only. Enter the name of the client machine (the one without keyboard or mouse) in one of the directional boxes (In the client machine type "hostname" in a terminal if you don't know this) 3. Run Quicksynergy on client machine. 4. On the client machine only. Type the IP address of the Host machine in the Use tab. issue 3 (Not transfering mouse clicks) Status changed by otavio   -   Hi bdmorin. As QuickSynergy is only a launcher for synergy2 (after writing down the synergy2 configuration file), I think this issue should be reported at synergy2 website: synergy2.sourceforge.net. Please, let me know if you have any concerns. Thanks for using QuickSynergy.

issue 3 (Not transfering mouse clicks) reported by bdmorin   -   I am running synergy client on a win32 system, and quicksynergy on a 10.5.7 OSX. The mouse moves to the windows system, but no keyboard/mouseclick actions are carried over. I have verbose logging turned on but do not see anything to indicate a problem. On a "mousedown" event, the action is carried out locally at the Mac, and any movement while the mousebutton is down is carried out on the MAC. Occasionally I can get keyboard control to transfer over, but not reliably.

issue 2 (Peculiar Configuration help) reported by fuentes.luciano   -   Is there any way to configure a setup with 3+ clients where quicksynergy is the server? In my case I have Quicksynergy running as the server to the right side of three client machines. I know I can just change the parameters in the config file directly, but I'm sure options for non-standard setups would be well-received. Great work though!
