Upgrade Quicksilver Forums

Before beginning, you should double check what version of the software you are running. Your AdminCP should report the Quicksilver Forums version at the bottom of any page there. Make a note of it.

Starting with QSF 1.5, the installer can detect the version of the software it thinks you have, but only if you already have version 1.5 or higher installed.

It is strongly advised to unpack the new archive locally and upload the files rather than simply unpacking them into your website folder. The settings.php file needs to be kept intact on your site for the upgrade to function. Do not upload settings.php from your local copy.

Once the files are uploaded, surf to http://yoursite.com/install

QSF will check your system and report back on whether you have the necessary software. If it does not meet the requirements, the installer will not be able to continue. Requirements for QSF 1.5 are higher than past versions and you may need to have PHP or MySQL updated in order to use it.

Select "Upgrade Existing Forum" from the menu and hit continue.

Directory permissions will be checked, and if any need to be adjusted, the installer screen will let you know.

If the version can be detected, the installer will report what it thinks you have. It should be safe to select that version from the menu of choices in the upgrade list.

If it cannot detect it, you are either running a MercuryBoard system, or have an install of QSF that is older than version 1.5. Find the version of the software you are using and select it.

Select "continue" to process the upgrade.

Assuming all went well, you should get a report on any templates that were updated and the success of the upgrade.

If it fails, there should be an error detailing the problem, resolve this and then attempt the upgrade again.

It is occasionally possible that an upgrade will fail after being partially applied. This can happen on heavily modified boards that don't confirm to the default database schema. There is no way to detect this ahead of time. If your board is heavily modified, it may be best to try and apply the upgrade by hand instead. Only attempt this if you know your way around PHP and MySQL.

That's it! You should be set up now and ready to go!
