How to install Quicksilver Forums
Featured, Phase-Deploy
Updated Jan 16, 2011 by arthmoor

System Requirements

  • Apache webserver, or other webhosting service.
  • PHP 5.3.0 or greater.
  • MySQL 3.23, 4.1.3 or greater recommended.
  • Access to FTP/SFTP and Telnet/SSH to your website.
  • A database must be available, usually provided by your host.
  • The URL for where your site will be.

New Installation

Upload the archive to your public HTML folder on the host.

Unpack it with the following command (linux): tar -xzvf filename.tgz If using Windows, winrar or 7zip can unpack the file for you.

You can unpack the files locally to your harddrive and upload them to your site if you prefer. Make sure they get uploaded as ASCII and not binary!!

Once unpacked, surf to http://yoursite.com/install

QSF will check your system and report back on whether you have the necessary software. If it does not meet the requirements, the installer will not be able to continue.

Select "New Installation" from the menu and hit continue.

Directory permissions will be checked, and if any need to be adjusted, the installer screen will let you know.

You will need your database name, database username, database password, and if necessary the port and/or socket needed to connect to it. This information can be obtained from your provider if you do not have it handy.

You will be asked for a site name and a URL. The URL should already be filled out and it is generally best to leave it as-is unless you know for sure it needs to be changed.

Then provide an administrator account, password, and contact information so that the software will be able to deliver any necessary messages to you.

Click "continue" and you should get a screen confirming that all went well. If not, an error will be displayed asking you to correct whatever went wrong. Use your back button to return to the install form once you have the information it needs.

That's it! You should be set up now and ready to go!
