About Presence

In certain use-cases using full-fledged service discovery systems such as UPnP or Jini are simply too complex or too slow to use, especially in mobile scenarios where the device doing the discovery is a mobile device. Presence is a simple, lightweight service discovery/announcement protocol that can be used in these mobile settings where quick discovery of services is needed. Apart from the mobility aspect Presence is also extremely easy to use from an application developer viewpoint.
