Project Information

Pongathon is yet another clone of Pong written using pygame. It requires Python 2.6 and Pygame 1.9.

Pongathon is open source software. It is released under the GNU General Public License.

The current stable version of Pongathon is 1.4.1. At the time of this writing, it is not known to have any bugs.

I'm picking Pongathon up again after three and a half years to compare the recently released pySDL2 to pygame 1.9 (which uses the previous SDL). Here is the plan for how I'm going to do that:

  • 1.4.1 will be a minor update to remove the circular dependency between the graphical view and the model.
  • 2.0 will be version 1.4.1, rewritten to use pySDL2 in place of pygame. No new functionality will be added.
  • 1.5 and 2.1 will both feature the addition of mouse support to the game.

I'll release both of them and then see which one I like better.

Due to downloads now being verboten on Google Code, source archives of versions past 1.4.0 are not available at the present time. Until I care enough to work around that, you'll have to checkout from the repo if you want the code.
