PockeTwit notification system.
Updated Jun 25, 2010 by jakestevenson

Introduction

PockeTwit uses standard Windows Mobile notifications to inform you of new messages and/or new friend status updates.

Details

On PocketPC devices, PockeTwit uses the standard notification system to inform the user of changes. To access these settings, choose "Settings" from the Windows Mobile Start Menu, then click the "Sounds & Notifications" icon, then the "Notifications" tab.

PockeTwit can raise two kinds of notifications:

  • PockeTwit: Friends Updates
  • PockaTwit: Messages

This allows you to have different settings for messages sent to you versus regular updates.

PLEASE NOTE: These settings are erased every time PockeTwit is uninstalled and re-installed. You will have to re-configure them on every upgrade. I am working to find a way around this issue.

I assume this either monitors SMS asynchronously or periodically checks? Then does PockeTwit? need to be running for this functionality?

It checks using the data connection, not by intercepting SMS. And yes, the app must be running in the background for notifications to be raised.

Is there a way to set PockeTwit? to only notify during certain hours?

Cool interface - I like the finger swiping capability, but it's not obvious to a first time user - you should have a little mini-app that launches on first-use that shows a little slide-show on how the interface works. I had to go back to your web site and "hunt" around to find out how to "find the menu" on your app - not being an iphone junkie and accustomed to the 'clunky' MS6.1 OS, I would have never tried swiping my finger - I was half a heartbeat from deleting your app and trying another one when I found the 'words' describing the 'finger swiping' interface. Food for your thoughts - LOVE THE APP!

I got "Invalid credentials." message when i click the "Accept" button in the server configuration. The data what i write here is correct. What is the problem?

This program would be amazing if I didn't have to use WiFi? to use it. A bit of scrounging around found that it has something to do with Twitter API and Cellular Connections and proxies. This causes the 'Invalid Credentials' notification when using a cellular connection.

Once that is fixed, this program will surpass Tiny Twitter by miles.

i dont see pockeTwit in the list of notifications .. i'm using an HTC TouchPro? with wm 6.1

Comment by ethan...@live.com, Nov 17, 2009

it won't show a notification when it's updated, but it will still chirp/vibrate when it's refreshed... but it won't notify you if it's not running

An idea for configuration settings persistence: 1. Create a special twitter account, e.g. @PockeTwitSettings?, 2. When user configures PockeTwit? or makes any changes, simply send a tweet/direct msg from his/her account with the configuration. 3. On new installation, search for such msg after user has authenticated and apply the settings.

Twitter would serve as a simple and free database. Not sure about data longevity though (is it forever?)

Optional: 4. You could also pull this information periodically or on demand, so when using 2 or more devices, their settings would be "synced" :-)

Notification is not working. Neither do I see or hear or feel anything (activated a sound and vibration) nor is PockeTwit? listed in the list of notification events. Since the battery is drained very quickly when running PockeTwit? in background, notification isn't of much use anyway. Using HTC HD2 ...
