The Pobol project aims to define a data exchange standard for standard biological parts (Biobricks). The exchange format is based on XML / RDF / OWL. The idea is to

1. capture the minimal information needed to describe a Biobrick
2. allow the connection of additional data to Biobricks
3. keep the standard open for extension
