What is Pixmicat?

Pixmicat!, or PMC for short, is a imageboard system derived from futaba imageboard system from futaba channel.

Template engine and modules are used in Pixmicat! for archiving the extra functions that don't exist in futaba original script.

Wrappers are used in Pixmicat! that enables user switching data source, file storage method and thumbnail maker so that it can run on many platforms.

Pixmicat supports internationalization too. localization may be added in future. Currently supports English(US), Chinese(Taiwan) and Japanese.

PHP4 Support & Legacy versions Discontinuation

Due to End-of-Life(EOL) of PHP 4 in 2007-12-31, Pixmicat! PHP4 support and Legacy versions(MySQL/Log [flatfile]) will be discontinued in 2009-05-21, the 4th anniversary of Pixmicat!(GazouBBS雙葉改 scribe FIXED) project.

What is imageboard?

Imageboards could be most simply described as a bulletin board focused on pictures instead of text posts. for details please visit Imageboard page in Wikipedia.

Why don't you use GPL as Pixmicat's License?

That's a good question. Pixmicat! is a imageboard system derived from futaba imageboard system, which is derived from Let's PHP's GazouBBS imageboard system. In the license of GazouBBS, There's a line "著作権表示は消さないで下さい。デザイン上消したい場合は当サイトへのリンクをお願いします。" (Please do not remove the copyright notice. If it is an design issue, please create a link to this site i.e. Let's PHP site.).

This additional term conflicts with GPL license No.6 "You may not impose any further restrictions on the recipients' exercise of the rights granted herein.". If we want to release Pixmicat!, we should follow the original license as well, including this additional term. As a result we choose "The Clarified Artistic License" instead as this license don't written explicitly about adding extra terms.

Although it is not written explicitly, you should think about if you will violate the license when you removing GazouBBS / futaba / Pixmicat! links. So we don't remove this term and hope people will follow this term as well.
