i've been thinking "damn wouldn't it be nice if i could just use facebook through pidgin instead of through the buggy ass pile that is facebook chat (javascript error popups every 3 minutes and weird bugs where the typing textbox loses focus) but i was too lazy to look to see if there was a plugin for pidgin and here it is! thanks!

i have a problem: when i use the version 1.60 of the plug-in, the program automatically write my status on my wall ("online or absent") and it's boring to delete all, can i have a help?

lukebdb and all ...The plugin will write status updates to Facebook. This caught me out on the first day, because Pidgin wrote "Is not here right now." half a dozen times to my wall before someone asked what point I was trying to make.

To disable this, in Pidgin, go to Modify Account -> Advanced and uncheck "Set Facebook status through Pidgin status".

In the Advanced tab, you will see some other neat little customisable features.

I am running Windows XP, Firefox 3.5.3. I attempted to download pidgin-facebookchat-1.61.exe and my virus detection program reported it as having win32:Trojan-gen (an apparent virus or worm). Thinking it might have been my computer that has the problem, I attempted to download the same file from another computer in the house, but got the same virus message. I don't see anyone else reporting this problem and am asking if you have any suggestions. Thanks for any helpful comments.

So then what is the Linux Equivalent? There is no "pixmaps" directory under "/usr/lib/pidgin" so am I to create one? Or does the Linux Version stash these things under /home/user/.purple or somewhere else?

Hey, the app is asking me about my birthdate because facebook thinks i am not who i am! its asking: year: ... month: ... and date: ... i tried every combination possible (like yyyy-mm-dd or yyyy-month in letters-dd) but always when i click the OK button Pidgin crashes down... it also does not appear in the plugin list but worked until this birthdate window came. running on windows 7, newest pidgin and newest .exe plugin from here...

SSL Connection Failed.... how to correct this?

I'm having the same issue as Patrick Dressler with windows 7 ultimate x64. Last night I installed it and It worked for a few hours. Then it just started disconnecting and reconnecting. Wrong password it said every time. Then I started getting the "Captcha" pop up.

Patrick and Adrian, are you using the newest version? I was having this problem as well but I just upgraded and that seems to have solved it.

how to find out wich version of the plugin do i have? its not in the plugin list... but installed it on Oct, 30th.

i did find the setup file, there it says version 1.61

There's a trojan virus in the addon according to Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. Is this a fluke, or did you guys intentionally put this in?

Bug discovered in 1.64. The bottom buddy in the facebook list often displays the name of the buddy above it. When hovering over it with the mouse, it changes to something else like "Other Contacts" or "Buddies"

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

This may not be a frequently asked question, but I don't know where else to ask it:

How do we debug this plugin? There are some really annoying issues which need fixing and I'd really like to have a go at fixing them myself, but I have no idea how to debug this plugin.

What do people use when writing/debugging libprpl plugins? Is there a guide/tutorial we can follow?

since the FB chat window is now a duplicate of Pidgin's, could it just stay down?

Is it possible not to have the "normal" FB chat window pop up when using Pidgin (with its FB-plugin)? It would be great; not only is that ("original") chat window just an unnecessary duplicate now, which needs to be closed by corner-click each time, but FB chat messes up the browser (or freezes the entire OS) quite often...

What should I be looking at?

I've use this plugin on pidgin portable (by PortableApps?) and it's work. But, the icon is not work. I've extract it (icons and plugins) to PidginPortable?/App/Pidgin/pixmaps/pidgin/protocols directory. But, it's still doesnt work. Can anyone help me how to fix this.

@costversion: I'd really like to know too, how to close the Facebook chat window. I clicked Sign out from its menu, but I got signed out of Pidgin too.

All I managed to accomplish in terms of disabling was to stop the sounds it makes when a buddy sends a message.

I'm assuming there's no problem, but I should ask: will this work with Finch?

Just recently stopped working for me. Pidgin 2.6.6, same issue as scotttocs

json-glib required version and the oldest online require glib 2.16. RHEL and CentOS are on 2.12.3. Moving RHEL/CentOS to glib 2.16 is probably likely to break lots! I just hope the crappy community that is RHEL and CentOS get fixing up an rpm for extras!

Facebook now works with XMPP which for those that dont know is the open jabber standard :) This means pidgin no longer needs this plugin! :)

I use Pidgin 2.7.7 and last Facebook plugin not work for me. In the facebook I have connected many people, but in pidgin at the same time - none. What is the reason for that?

You have to install version 1.69 for a fix.

Yes man, you're right: disabling https from Facebook settings the program connects, but every time I try to send a message it tells me "Close and reopen your browser window", son I'm still stuck

I repeatedly get mail saying I have a "Facebook Syndication Error" in my mail messages. So repeated, that I've had to disable this plug-in.

Any help suggestions?

For the syndication error, go to http://www.facebook.com/notifications.php and then copy the Via RSS link on the page. In Pidgin, go to Accounts / Facebook / Edit Account, to the advanced tab, and then enter the copied link in the Notifications RSS Feed URL box.

It appears that Facebook reset the URL as I noticed the key value in my new URL has changed from what pidgin-facebookchat had in it's stored URL.

Thanks for this pugin! And just wanted to point out that it doesn't work if "Login notifications" is enabled in your Facebook security settings.

Why do I get "Incorrect username or password" even though I properly entered my e-mail address and password? At least, it's not functioning right now, and I am a hundred percent sure I entered them just fine.

@vincentB because it's not your email address you have to put but a username. You can create it through facebook account settings. Then you have to log to facebook at least once with your username instead of your email address. (if you don't do this you it's like the username has not been activated yet)

I get all the time facebook server closed the connection, then I am unable to reconnect trough pidgin unless I log out from everywhere (fb webpage/pidgin) and reconnect. Quite annoying :/
