What version of the Facebook plugin are you using? It doesn't matter which version What version of Pidgin are you using? 2.5.6 What Operating System (Windows/Linux 32-bit/Linux 64-bit) are you using? Ubuntu 9.04 64bit What is the problem? /tmp/pidgin-facebookchat-1.51-1.deb could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences. |

I have also un-archived the bz2 file and copied the files into the respective directories. That didn't work either. Please let me know the workaround. |

Might be called libjson-glib. What version of the Facebook plugin are you using? Are you using one from within Ubuntu, or version 1.51 from the website here? |

I got it installed and its still not working. |

Are you trying to install the pidgin-facebookchat package from within Ubuntu, or version 1.51 from the website here? |
|
,
Jun 18, 2009
It doesn't matter which you install it from, it just doesn't work. Facebook has been updating like crazy the last few days, and facebook chat isn't working. Pidgin or even Digsby's facebook app. The protocol has changed. |
|
,
Jun 18, 2009
neuster, your issue is seperate. If you feel that the protocol has changed can you open a new issue ticket and paste a debug log of the new protocol. |

I too am having problems getting the Facebook plugin to work on Ubuntu 9.0.4. Note that this is a brandspanking new installation. Appreciate any help that anyone can provide. I'm also having trouble installing. Not sure if it's related to this issue or not, but when I try to install via package installer I get the error "Dependency is not satisfiable: libjson-glib-1.0.0" In spite of the fact that I have repeatedly verified that it is installed' |

For Hardy, you can download the library from the Intrepid library. See here: http://www.dedyisn.net/2009/06/install-facebook-plugin-in-pidgin-on-ubuntu-hardy-804/ Interestingly, I had to uninstall my local build of Pidgin 2.5.8 before the facebook plugin would load. |

Hi. I'm using ubuntu 9.04, and I can't get pidgin facebook chat to work. facebook chat tries to login to facebook (I even get to see who's online for an instant), but disconnects immediately saying "chat service currently unavailable". All that is using pidgin and pidgin-facebook-chat from the ubuntu repos. Also, when I try to install pidgin facebook chat from the deb package, I get the error "Dependency is not satisfiable: libjson-glib-1.0-0 (>= 0.7.6)". Installing libjson-glib-1.0.0 from synaptic doesn't seem to work. The same error keeps appearing. Does anyone know what's wrong? |

<<Does anyone know what's wrong?>> Well that's simple, you have to read carefully what synaptic shows. Last version from ubuntu jaunty repositories is libjson-glib-1.0-0 (0.6.2-3) clearly older than (0.7.6) Seems like ubuntu 9.10 (karmic koala) is shipping pidgin-facebookchat 1.6 and json-glib 0.7.6 so you just have to wait roughly a month to get it working "pidgin-facebookchat" source package in Ubuntu -> https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin-facebookchat "json-glib" source package in Ubuntu -> https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/json-glib |

I think this is not a bug/defect but rather a misconfiguration > oWhat is the problem? > /tmp/pidgin-facebookchat-1.51-1.deb could not be opened, because the > associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in > your preferences.f the initial poster. Clearly is a problem with the configuration of GNOME/Ubuntu and not an issue with the .deb-file of pidgin-facebootchat. Also, installation on older systems like Hardy where some of the additional libs are missing shouldn't be discussed here because it's a bug report and not a support forum, is it? Suggestion: Close this report. Adrian |

I got it to work by installing libjson-glib form the karmic repository. You can get it here http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/i386/libjson-glib-1.0-0/download |

You could also just install pidgin-facebook from the repos. Sometimes, when you select "Open" when downloading a .deb, you get that helper error. Solution: Tell your browser to download it, not just open it. |

known working on ubuntu netbook remix under 2.6.28-15 kernel (jaunty). DO NOT DOWNLOAD FROM GOOGLE CODE (i.e. this page) get it from the repository this way: * make sure you've exited from pidgin * open a terminal window * type sudo apt-get clean && apt-get update * hit enter * type sudo apt-get install pidgin-facebookchat * hit enter * launch pidgin * add it as you would any other account * enjoy hope that helps! |

I am attempting to get this working on Fedora 11. Pidgin was installed from source and is at the latest release as of today. All working. I had the json library installed from the Fedora repo, but it was below the required 0.7.6 version. So I installed the most recent version (0.8.0 I think) of json-glib from source. Seemed to go OK. I do not have facebook chat as an option in accounts, and I get the same ELF class error in the debug window of Pidgin when it tries to intialise the plugin. Anyone have any suggestions for this ? There are some of us out here that don't run Ubuntu :) |

Not an issue for Koala. The problem is a distro thing. Many distros (especially ubuntu) like to hold back updating certain libraries until the next major version release of that distro (i remember wishing i could have audacious2 and having to get it from a 3rd party repos until i finally got koala). |

I experienced the same issue after installing pidgin-facebookchat-1.61.deb on ubuntu 9.04.. I finally fixed it after installing 1.62 deleting the facebook account in pidgin.. then re-adding the account. Works perfectly once again. |

Nothing to do! I have spent several days to fix the libjson-glib-1.0-0 issue and I have lost all the wishes. How Have I do? If I update the plugin using the deb file I get the common error: libjson-glib-1.0-0 (>= 0.7.6) thanks |
