Phoenix-iTorrent Goal
The goal of the Phoenix-iTorrent project is to create a highly usable Bit Torrent client for iTunes. The Bit Torrent protocol has proved successful at reducing the cost of distributing content by minimizing the usage of bandwidth on a central server. Phoenix-iTorrent will enable Podcasters, musicians and other content providers to deliver their products with lower cost and richer media options.
Phoenix-iTorrent Background
The Phoenix-iTorrent project is a revival of the Source Forge iTorrent project (http://sourceforge.net/projects/itorrent/) originally put together by Michael Hobbs. The original project is now believed to be defunct and attempts to contact the author were not successful.
The current release of Phoenix-iTorrent takes the latest binary distribution of iTorrent and wraps it in a user-friendly installer for the Windows platform. The current product is usable, stable and functional. However, there is much room for improvement and the hope is to create enough interest to attract contributors that will enhance and add features.
Proposed enhancements:
- Documentation of iTorrent build process and dependences
- Better user documentation
- One-click subscribe
- Tighter OS integration
- Mac OS X support
