Random thoughts on living with 64 bits.
Introduction
Sixty four bit machines have been around long enough that even I have one. However, there appears to be a battle line over whether to make it easy to use 32 bit code on them; no surprise, users get caught in the middle of it.
ODBC
ODBC has been giving me some trouble, with searches about using 32 bit code on a 64 bit OS turning up little useful information. At least on Ubuntu, the ia32-libs (search for ia32 in the package manager) package appears to of some help. I also appear to have a collection of 32 bit drivers in /usr/lib32/odbc and a 32 bit /usr/lib32/libodbc.so.
