Name the Company

By default, the company is named 'WmDOT'. The user can select any one or two letter preface to 'DOT'. The program will fall back to a random name if the specified name is already taken.

Build HQ

The largest city is selected and then the HQ is built there.

Operation DOT

A list of towns above the population threshold is collected.

Mode 1 - Connect Town Pairs

  • Default Mode
  • Returns here if the program has entered Mode 2 (or beyond) but towns rise above the population threshold
  • An 'Atlas' of Manhattan Distances between the pairs is generated. (Note that only half the matrix is filled in to save on computation speed)
  • Existing links are removed from the Atlas
  • Possible pairs are weighted
  • The best rated pair is selected and connected by road

Mode 2 - Fill in the Missing Links

  • This mode is entered when all towns have been joined by road
  • Based on a list of already built connections, the AI looks for towns that would benefit from a shorter connections

Mode 3 - Sleep

  • All possible connection pairs have been anaylized
  • The AI takes a 'nap' (about 10 sleep cycles)

Operation Hibernia

This is WmDOT's revenue source. WmDOT makes money by transporting Oil from Oil Rigs to Oil Refineries.

Actually, the function is designed to work a little broader and so will transport cargo from any sea-based industry.
