Description of the problem ========================== Birthday information is not provided to apps - for privacy concerns. The proposal is to make it available. The workaround is for the app to ask user for this information itself. What steps will reproduce the problem? ====================================== 1. 2. 3. What is the expected output? ============================ What is the actual output? ========================== Which container are you using? ============================== Please provide any additional information below. |

Orkut won't give out the exact birthdate and year because it's Personally Identifiable Info. Would the Month and Day be sufficient? Or are you looking for an age range? |

it would make for a great app... where i could export all my frnds birthdays to csv format or atleast google internally adds them to my google calendar... the month and day would be enuf for this... so that shudnt bring up the child privacy issue... and it shud work for only those frnds, who have chosen to share their birthdays... If i can see it on my home page, when i log in, i shud be able to use that information... |

I can understand not providing exact birth-date for privacy reasons. But the "age" of the user is something that is not personally identifiable info, and that helps us provide a lot more functionality and take privacy / safety measures based on user's age. This is a high priority issue for a lot of apps. |

As for me, as of now Day and Month is very much essential. So far social feelings are concerned, we tend to wish 'Happy Birthday'!!!!. My App is in itself going to be a small forum of school batchmates with images etc, where we can highlight the birth day of a person, and can have lots of functionalities surrounding this event, gift, quotes, messages etc and i am thinking of making the image of the person wear a birthday hat and place some animated candles and a cake...and some streamers! So mday and month is very essential. tHANKS |

Definitely can use Age as in how many yrs and how many months. A lot of app content can be age-specific. |
