What OpenPiczza Provides?
OpenPiczza is not created to replace Piczza service. It is for easy to set up file sharing service tool. We think small number of people can use/host OpenPiczza to share files between them. For performance and scalability side, we think current OpenPiczza can support at most 10 concurrent users.
OpenPiczza will support Windows, Linux and Mac OS X - Or other platforms where Squeak VM and SQLite dynamic library can run.
Why We Made OpenPiczza?
OpenPiczza is derivative of commerical Piczza service which also provides the groovy file transfer service. Yet, different from Piczza, we just want to provide yet another means to share files between people in free software style, for who just wants small service for absolute free - this time "free beer."
We think it's cool if we can interconnect this free OpenPiczza and our commercial Piczza service; we've just yet figured out in what way this could be done, but we believe that there's a way for this. For example, interconnection or integration through client/dedicated client might be a solution for this.
In short, we made this for fun! We just hope OpenPiczza be useful service software for you. Or better, you can help us to improve it.
Future Plans
- First objective with OpenPiczza is to provide easy to use yet free file sharing tool. We will provide more refined set up tool.
- Second is possible integration with Commerical Piczza service for whom don't want to be tangled up with server setup and administration.
- We could make OpenPiczza as similar as original Piczza service. But this is not our preferred approach; building scalable service with OpenPiczza is not our major objective.
Yeah, How can I use this?
Although currently in heavy development, HowToUseOpenPiczza2 could help you. We'll provide One Click Installation Package for Windows and Linux as well as Mac OS X. Stay tuned. We always welcome any suggestion or help to improve OpenPiczza.
