OK, it looks that currently OOo2GD doesn't work on newest MacOS (don't ask me for version, I don't know how versions works in Mac OS ;-) ). Last known for me version of Mac OS X where it works without problems is OS X 10.4 aka Tiger. In Tiger and earlier versions it worked well with NeoOffice, in newest versions it works, but windows looks bad, and because of this they are almost unusable. This problem is visible in all Java extensions for OO.org (or on Mac rather to NeoOffice and LiberOffice) which are using Java to create windows. If you want anybody to fix this problem complain to Apple, its theirs call. Additionally it will not work in Mac version of OpenOffice.org because Mac version of OpenOffice.org has bug which doesn't let to use AWT/Swing in OO.org extensions. More details here http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=92926 This problem isn't present in NeoOffice and from this what I know also isn't present in LibreOffice. But still, with newest versions of Mac OS X it will look bad. I don't have Mac OS X so I'm not able even to try if it is possible to write special handling of windows for Mac OS X...... Extension works well on Windows and Linux, only newest versions of Mac OS X have some bug which cause that Java extensions of NeoOffice/LibreOffice cannot present good looking windows to user. Yeah, I know that for example LanguageTool has most of windows looking good on newest Mac OS X, but those are "native" for OO.org windows, so extensions are only using windows of OpenOffice.org, but theirs one window which is created by Java, so Configuration looks also bad. |
I hope you find someone to help with this. I am a Mac user, but not a programmer, and will find the Google Docs extension to be enormously helpful.
Thanks and good luck.

When will the Mac-version be available?

i just tried.. 1.7 beta... no worky for upload. Downloads and opens openoffice in wiki format but when I try to export back OO freezes...
@murraypetera thanks for your feedback are the first :-)?. What means "opens openoffice in wiki format"? Does it mean that you are able to download and open downloaded document in OO.org?
We run confluence and have the plugin installed to allow import and export of documents for editing.
I can export the document to OO. (PS this all work with MS word on windows) When I do export the document the text is "wiki" format vs what you see is what you get format. OO says "plain text"
I the try to send it back to confluence and OO get stuck and stops responding so I have to force kill it.
I am running the latest update of OSX 10.5.7 on a new MBP 15"

what about using "SoyLatte?" - http://landonf.bikemonkey.org/static/soylatte/ ??? i think this got into "OpenJDK" and might be usable via "MacPorts?" - http://trac.macports.org/browser/trunk/dports/java/openjdk6/Portfile
@dsuoch - current versions of OOo2GD should work on MacOS, because whole addon was recompiled to work with Java 5. I forgot about put this information here, sorry.
Oups...2.2 crash on MacOS X 10.6, any idea ? Thank you !
Installing ext in OO fails, I'm running OS X v10.6.4 and latest java from apple. Same with both 2.2.0-1 & -2. Message: URP-bridge
Same problem. Any solutions?
I've been trying to get this to work through many variations on OOo.
Under OpenOffice?, the extension won't install at all, giving a "Java implementation" error.
Under LibreOffice?, the extension installs, but crashes the program every time.
Under NeoOffice?, the extension installs and runs, but the dialogue windows are "stretched" horizontally, making them impossible to read or use.
Any clues on why the extension is behaving so differently -- and never correctly -- in Mac variations of OOo for OS X Snow Leopard?
I know that it worked about year ago, now I hear that it doesn't work. In OO.org it is problem with OO.org on Mac, in case of LibreOffice? I don't know source of problem but I may suppose that it is connected with problem in OO.org, in NeoOffice? this strange behavior is something new, almost the same code is working outside NeoOffice? without this strange effects. But I don't have Mac, and only legal way to work on Mac is to buy Mac, so sorry, but till I will not find somebody with Java knowledge and Mac it will in state as it is.
I would like to know if different Java extensions works, and this may help me to isolate problem and maybe fix it, but now it is only guessing.
From this what I know it works also on Mac OS on PPC.
There was a comment from last July on the OOo repository for extensions that describes exactly the problem I am having with NeoOffice?:
Ooo2Gdocs? dialog boxes have crazy overspaced text!
7/4/2010 Hi, Happy user in Windows and Ubuntu, so thanks for the extension!
However, just got a new MacBook? Pro w/ OS 10.6.3, Java SE 6, 64-bit. Installed NeoOffice? 3.1.1 Patch 1 and got your extension today, but so far I can't use it because all of the text within your extension's dialog boxes is spaced apart so far that the boxes extend well past the edge of my monitor, and I can't really read anything.
Here's a screenshot of what I see when I select to upload to Google Docs: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/bM_5C4EZnvqtaPZQc-F-aA?feat=directl...
Thanks, -PF
7/10/2010: I updated to Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_20. Still getting same behavior.
And here we are in December, and I'm getting the same overspaced text using Java SE 1.6.0_22. Strange, isn't it?
And?
From this it in NeoOffice? looks that it was all caused by some change in Mac OS/Apple Java. That's all what I may say.
I will not buy Mac to resolve problem which is probably caused by some breaking of specification of Java in this computer. To fix problems visible on Linux I need only to use VMWare Player and run some Ubuntu on VM.
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound pushy. I just find it odd that the same extension can behave so differently in different versions of the program, all using the same Java. I completely understand that you're not going to buy new equipment just to fix an extension. Neither am I. Your extension works so well on the Windows computer I use at my office that I was hoping to use it also on my Mac at home. Perhaps I'll have to dual-boot Linux on my Mac to get it working.
Thanks for all the work you put into this project.
@PSNancarrow - I will be happy when it will work without problems on Mac OS. Maybe in spare time you will try if any of previous versions works on your Mac OS? If you will find such version it may mean that it is problem with extension and may help to isolate source of problem. It may also help if you or somebody else will be able to run those two programs http://www.przemelek.pl/file/MacTest.jar and http://www.przemelek.pl/file/MacTestSwingLib.jar on Mac Java but both with 32 and 64 bit versions of Java.
No version works on Mac Os 10.6.6 and OOo 3... I've tried all of them and everything, I can install, but I can't have access to the configuration!
@vicenzo - look at this what I wrote in "article". Last known for me version where it works without problems is Mac OS X 10.4, after this Apple changed something in theirs Java implementation, and from this time any OO.org extensions in Java cannot show its own windows, or rather can but those windows looks terrible.
@przeme... - yes, I read the article. I just wanted to make confirmation that, unfortunately, no version works with the latest updates... Hoping Apple sets up something new for us!
@vincezo - I will try to create some special version of OOo2GD which will try to force size of windows, maybe it will work on newest Mac OS X?
Does it already work on a Mac?
Not yet!
Damn! :-)
Looking for it too
New update Java for MacOs?. This will solve our trouble with ooo2gd? Any news?
I currently use VirtualBox? 3.0.14 on Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger) running Ubuntu Linux 10.04 LTS. I use OpenOffice? under Linux, and NeoOffice? under Mac OS X. I was thinking of updating my Mac to OS X 6 (Snow Leopard) but now I see that the proprietary model will deny me the ability to use an open source productivity suite, such as OpenOffice?, NeoOffice?, or LibreOffice? under Mac OS X. Will the Java incompatibility under the current version of Mac OS X affect apps running on Linux under a virtual machine, such as Parllels, VMWare Fusion, or VirtualBox?? Would one be able to run OpenOffice? or LibreOffice? in such a virtual machine environment? Thanks for any info.
Just to let everyone know, you can still use this extension with Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) and possibly OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), but YOU HAVE TO USE gdocs_1.9.0.oxt
USING THE NEWER VERSIONS CAUSE THE SOFTWARE TO CRASH BUT USING THAT VERSION (1.9.0) WORKS
Mac OS X 10.5.8 Running latest version of Apple Java Runtime Environment (Apple 1.6.0_24)
jorplj@gmail.com: Don't be ridiculous. NeoOffice? and LibreOffice? work just fine on Snow Leopard and Lion. The problem appears to be limited to certain extensions.
Przemysław: I'd be happy to help with Mac OS testing, and to discuss the Java issues with you some more. But let's get this done!
Can this extension be written without using AWT? That seems to be the main problem here.
I tried out version 1.9.0 on Mac Os X 10.6 as suggested a few posts above, and the extension works but errors out with a message box saying:
Problem: 403.4 SSL required
when I try to either upload or download the documents list from google docs. so really, it doesn't work.
