OverviewThe Nord Modular Patch Handler (abbreviated as NyMPH) is a fairly simple application designed to organize, categorize, and manage patch files for the original Clavia Nord Modular synthesizer platform. What does it do?The NyMPH system allows the user to import Patches into the database from the file system. Each Patch can have metadata assigned to it such as usage frequency, rating, last modified, a short description, etc. Each Patch can also have a matrix of keywords assigned to it that describe the Sound Source, Instrument Type, Timbre/Characteristics, and Articulation. Users can add their own Keywords. The main UI for the NyMPH system allows the user to filter a list of Patches based on Keywords, Rating, etc. so that it is easy to find specific types of sounds without having to use a filesystem hierarchy to organize them. Patches can be 'sent' to the Modular Editor software provided by Clavia. This is realized by writing the Patch to a temporary file and monitoring it for changes. Patches can be dragged and dropped into a Patch Bank grid, which can be exported to the filesystem and subsequently imported into the Editor Software. I'm using it to gain field experience in applying UML modeling and diagramming to the software development process. I'm also using it to maintain and strengthen my C# skills while working in a VB shop.:) |
