Using_QuickScroll
User manual of QuickScroll

QuickScroll lets you scroll through anywhere quickly.

  1. In a long page, tap with two fingers, or triple tap on anywhere.
  2. A scrollbar will appear. Drag to scroll around.

QuickScroll also supports paging.

  1. Activate the scrollbar like above.
  2. Press the "123" button in the lower-right corner.
  3. Enter the page number in the new dialog.

You can change the scroller type (scrollbar vs. 2D scroll pane a.k.a. QuickScroll 1), activation method (single tap, two-finger tap, triple tap or simply scrolling), duration and disabled apps in Settings → QuickScroll.

To theme QuickScroll, edit the images in /System/Library/PreferenceBundles/QuickScroll.bundle/.

i love it! but what about double tapping outside scroll window to close?

Comment by m...@lutz-otto.de, Aug 12, 2009

Sounds great! Does it also support ebooks with Stanza?

This softwear is nice, but the biggest point I don't like is the scroll window is too big and on the center of the screen, covered the content of screen. Can make it more narrow and just close to the right edge so more like the scorll bar on pc?

Tks!

Awesome! A wonderful idea, and nearly perfectly executed. I have one suggestion that would make it 100% more usable. I've found that it's very difficult to use when you're on a list of items that are clickable (like your iFile screenshot above), and a quick explanation of technique in your user manual will eliminate this difficulty. The best way I've found to activate quickscroll on a list of clickable elements is to do the triple-tap as follows:

Tap the screen with 2 fingers at the same time, then, leaving one finger held down tap twice more with the other finger. Your instructions indicated to me that the 'held down' finger needed to strike the screen first, followed by 3 taps with another finger. This is not the case. The 'held down' finger needs to strike the screen at the same time as the 'tapping' finger's first tap.

I would suggest that you include this gesture as the primary activation gesture for quickscroll, because, in all cases, it will just bring up the quickscroll box without affecting anything else.

Thank you HelToupee? for that tip. It works much better for me now!

I agree with Nickyaoo. It would be nice if it were more like the scroll bar. Overall though very nice. I've been wanting something like this! Thanks for the great work!

The one place I couldn't get it to work that I wish it would is in the 'downloaded videos' section of MxTube?. Any thoughts?

Comment by labluv...@comcast.net, Aug 12, 2009

Doesn't seem to be working with Notes. Anyone else have this problem?

Comment by HelToupee, Aug 13, 2009

@labluv...@comcast: Try the gesture I've mentioned. The developer has obviously made it work, unless he dummied up those screenshots.

I've found another place it doesn't seem to work -- in the Cydia "Changes" screen. It doesn't work in the "Search" screen, either - but Cydia's implemented the alphabetical scroll bar so it's a non-issue in the search section.

Still very useful! Looking forward to an update.

Excellent concept, too bad it doesn't work in Notes (even though the screenshot shows the opposite)

3.x? Can't get it to work w/2.2.1

i can't manage to make it appear in the springboard could it have a conflict with sb settings?

Comment by rrossj, Sep 17, 2009

yo kennytm, i see you're programming, and imma let you finish, but i just wanted to say you've made some of the best iphone tweaks of all time!

can we have per app activation triggers, tho?

Comment by rrossj, Sep 17, 2009

oh, on the springboard dialpad, can search count for the 0th page? it gets counted as page 1, but when i type page 1, i kinda expect the first app page. can there be made the option to have the search springboard page be page 0 and the first icon page to be page 1 (instead of 2)?

Comment by kennytm, Sep 18, 2009

@rrossj:

>> per app activation triggers Check the "Disable for..." settings.

>> springboard dialpad But it's inconsistent :p

Please add scrollbar for each app. I would like to use the scrollbar on springboard and quickscroll in the apps. Please add mix and match, now it is all scrollbar or all quickscroll. By quickscroll I mean the floating scroll that you created. Thanks a lot this app is great.

I really like this. I actually found it when I was looking for the quickscroll for Safari. But this is by far much more useful!

I have one suggestion for closing the "trackpad". It would be much more useful if you made a close button in the bottom of the track field. Just like quickscroll for Safari. Maybe also the length of the field could be made customizable?

Thanks!
