A quick rundown of how to get mysql-monitoring up and going

Introduction

Getting mysql-monitoring running is pretty straightforward, in fact there's not much to it at all.

  1. install rrdtool and DBD::mysql
  2. edit mysql_rrdtool.conf, if necessary
  3. run mysql_rrdtool.pl
  4. use rrdtool, drraw, or your favorite rrdtool graphing package to create and view graphs/dashboards/etc.

Next Steps

If you've got things up and working the next step probably is to customize the config and get more out of mysql_rrdtool.pl. This will let you monitor multiple databases and give you the option of watching more status variables.
