This is a partial list of machines and Ethernet card combinations that have been reported to work. You can assume that if a card works in a few classes of machines that it is probably a safe choice.
Some cards are not cards at all. The Xircom PE3-10BT is a parallel port device with a packet driver that makes it look like an Ethernet card. SLIP and PPP connections can be made to look like Ethernet devices too when using the right packet driver.
