This is a limitation of the protocol.

Can you do this in other clients?

If I choose pidgin's MSN protocol, YES, I can see buddy icons on the contact list.

Also with the official client is possible.

Not exactly.

I cannot see icons if they are not cached. When the status is not invisible,
msn-pecan will receive and save icons. When the status is invisible, I can still see
these icons having been cached.

That's more clear. I'm changing the summary then.

The account whose protocol is WLM only show its icons, whatever status is, because
msn-pecan NEVER retrieves other people's icons.

Ok, I'm reopening  issue 93 . 73 and 46 were for sending, not receiving.

I use these two scripts to build pidgin and msn-pecan.

Hmm,  issue 93  is about receiving too.

I can't find any open issue about not being able to retrieve display pictures. So I'm
reopening this, and changing the summary.

I spend some time trying these combinations, and clear my mind to figure out when
this defect happens. Of course, these problems only exist in msn-pecan, not pidgin's msn.

I launch two pidgins with two different configs.


account: a1 (msn, pidgin 1), a2 (wlm, pidgin 2)

o: icons display correctly
x: icons don't display correctly


1. a1 has icon, and

a1: available
	a2: login as
		invisible: x
		invisible -> available: x
		available: o


2. a1 changes icon, when

a1: available
	a2:
		available: o
		invisible: x

Ok, so the issue happens when you are invisible while you are supposed to retrieve a
display picture (login or contact changes it). It doesn't matter if you later switch
to available.

I will try to see how MSN 7.5 behaves in this situation, and get a net dump if it
works fine. Of course it would be nice if somebody else does that :)

I've changed the summary of this (the old was not clear).

AFAIK there is no way to retrieve display pictures while invisible, but once you come
back you'll be able to get them all.
