What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open an IM with a buddy
2. Talk, then leave idle for ~5 minutes
3. Click or start typing in message box in IM window

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Pidgin crashes

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Pidgin 2.4.0
libmsn pecan 0.0.10

Attached crash report, and debug log when bug replicated using debug
version of pidgin 2.4.0. Looks like msn-pecan is the source of the
crashing, this does not occur with offical libmsn

This bug happens with pecan 0.0.10 onwards only. I've tested it with 0.0.9 and this
bug does not happen at all. Presumably connected to setting personal messae somehow.

The error in the debug log is exactly the same as issue #32, with two extra lines:
(22:19:04) GLib-GObject: g_signal_handler_disconnect: assertion `handler_id > 0' failed
(22:19:04) GLib: g_queue_pop_head: assertion `queue != NULL' failed
(22:19:04) g_hash_table_peek_first: assertion `hash_table' failed
(22:19:04) pecan_stream_read: assertion `stream' failed

I too have been experiencing this error, attached is a copy of my log file. I am
currently using the following versions.

Pidgin 2.4.1
libmsn pecan 0.0.11
pidgin-portable.RPT

Thanks for your debug logs, I think I'm pretty sure what's the issue.

There are a lot of potential crashes on win32, those will be fixed in the next version.

Great felipe!

This is the only issue holding me back from using the latest version (currently using
0.0.9). This libmsn is a huge improvement on the default one that comes with pidgin.

Thanks Felipe!

The prompt reply and work you are putting into this is greatly appreciated, as
fusaiyuki says your plugin is a huge improvement over the default. Any idea on when
the next version of msn-pecan will be released?
Comment 9 by cameron.e.wood, Apr 04, 2008
Any word on when you will be releasing a new version, this bug is raining hell on my
Pidgin usage, and i am experiencing this bug as far back as version 0.0.8 of this
plugin :(
Comment 10 by felipe.contreras, Apr 04, 2008
I think this bug would be present most versions of msn-pecan.

It will probably get fixed next Monday, but patches are always welcome ;)
Comment 11 by cameron.e.wood, Apr 07, 2008
Monday as in now/just passed (depending on Timezones) or the one still to come? I'm
hanging for this fix sadly, can't use Pidgin for more than 30mins atm without it
going idle at some point and crashing on me :(

"It will probably get fixed next Monday"
Note: 'probably'. Have patience, it's a one-man libmsn, and felipe accepted the
issue, identified what was wrong and began working on it quickly.

Use the official MSN one in the meantime. It's not THAT bad.

cameron.e.wood: try this version, I will release it soon if everything goes well.

Just wanted to let you know that I grabbed the new version a few hours ago and have
been using it so far without fault, I will post again at the end of the day to let
you know after more extensive use.

On another note I am badly experiencing the 'won't save aliases' bug atm, some of my
contacts have gotten to counts as high as 7 :(
Comment 15 by cameron.e.wood, Apr 09, 2008
Sorry its taken soo long to reply. I have been using the new version since yesterday
without fault, so I think its safe for mass consumption :) Thx again.

Mine has been randomly crashing anytime a chatroom is opened, but sometimes I will go
in to chat with someone and BAM Pidgin crashes on me.
Comment 17 by felipe.contreras, Apr 28, 2008
This has been fixed and will be included in the next release.

0.0.12 released, please verify.
Comment 19 by fusaiyuki, May 04, 2008
Using 0.0.12, I've tested it as much as possible (since the cause was never full
pinned down) and it seems to be working fine. Great job :)
