French translation is up to 100% in launchpad (for months), but there's a
lot of sentences which are still in English.

It happens with package compiled from the sources, or althought using the
deb file from the PPA.

Is it possible to get it in "full translate"?

> What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install by compiling the sources or using deb file from the PPA
2. Use msn-pecan
3. Compare label from "WLM" to "MSN"

> What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

From the menu Account > WLM > All the items are untranslated except
  - the first : "Modify the account"
  - the last : "Disactivate"
(I translate for you ;-) )

Flying over a buddy :
  - account : translated
  - pseudo : translated
  - status (& its variable) : untranslated
  - has you (& its variable) : untranslated
  - blocked (& its variable) : untranslated

Right click on a buddy :
  - initiate chat : untranslated

Settings for WLM, advanced tab :
  - server
  - port (it's the same word in french ... so I don't know!)
  - use http method
  - show custom smileys
  - use server-side alias
  - use direct connections
  - use user displays
  - don't show messenger plus! tags
are untranslated

> What version of the product are you using?
Currently, I use msn-pecan - 0.0.18+12-g7a3c990-0msnpecan1~intrepid1 from
the PPA;
Before I had the binary compiled by myself using the sources
msn-pecan-0.0.18.tar.bz2 from google code.

> On what operating system?
Xubuntu, currently Intrepid

libmsn-pecan-fr.po seems to be ok.
Maybe it's a problem about fonts encoding?
Comment 3 by mavosaure, Mar 11, 2009
Exemples of sentences which are translated in .po file but stay in english on screen :

#: msn.c:712
msgid "Set Friendly Name..."
msgstr "Changer l'alias..."

#: msn.c:345
msgid "Set your home phone number."
msgstr "Définir le numéro de téléphone personnel"

#: msn.c:743
msgid "Allow/Disallow Mobile Pages..."
msgstr "Autoriser ou empêcher les messages sur téléphones portables..."

#: msn.c:753
msgid "Open Hotmail Inbox"
msgstr "Ouvrir votre boîte de réception Hotmail"

====> All these french sentences include special characters.

Can you try changing some of the translations to see if the problem is indeed special
characters?

Sorry for this late answer. No time for Pidgin, these weeks!

special characters?"

What do you mean, exactly? Try to make some changes in the sources and the to build it?

I'm just working on MS Windows XP for some days. I just re-installed Pidgin and
msn-pecan 0.19 (Live Messenger is so heavy!). The same problem occurs with the
translations.

Is it possible that it requires a particular settings for the font encoding during
the build of the plugin?

Hmm, translations on win32 are not working: issue 63.

But they should be working on Ubuntu. I don't know how the PPA packages are built,
have you checked that the correct .mo files are installed? What does dpkg -L says?

Comment 8 by mavosaure, Jun 22, 2009
Currently, there's always the 0.0.18 build in the PPA.

With this one, i get :

$ dpkg -L msn-pecan
/.

So there's no french translation after setup.
After another check-up, fr localization files are not in the
msn-pecan_0.0.18+12-g7a3c990-0msnpecan1_i386.deb from the PPA.

Comment 9 by mavosaure, Jun 22, 2009
Grrrrrrrr....
I just tried to remove (and purge) PPA's deb, to download 0.019 sources and to build it.

Make gave me the log make.log, and no pb with checkinstall.

But after setup, dpkg -L shows me only :
/.

/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/msn-pecan
/usr/share/doc/msn-pecan/TODO

How did you build? You need to run 'make install_locales' I'm not sure if the debian
rules are doing that.
Comment 11 by mavosaure, Jun 22, 2009
I just did it as in the wiki, whether i used checkinstall instead of
make install.
So :
make
   # (as logged)
sudo checkinstall

checkinstall? that's not part of msn-pecan Makefile.

I just updated the wiki to mention:
sudo make install_locales
Comment 14 by mavosaure, Jun 22, 2009
> checkinstall? that's not part of msn-pecan Makefile.

Checkinstall is a command line tool that could be used instead of "make install".

"CheckInstall keeps track of all files installed by a "make install" or equivalent,
creates a Slackware, RPM, or Debian package with those files, and adds it to the
installed packages database, allowing for easy package removal or distribution."

> I just updated the wiki to mention:

OK, I 'm gonna try it.

You might want to try the IRC channel too:

The same problem for the french translation occurred on 0.1.0~rc1-0msnpecan1~jaunty1
from the PPA :

(exactly the same description as in initial report)
[From the menu Account > WLM > All the items are untranslated except
  - the first : "Modify the account"
  - the last : "Disactivate"
(I translate for you ;-) )

Flying over a buddy :
  - account : translated
  - pseudo : translated
  - status (& its variable) : untranslated
  - has you (& its variable) : untranslated
  - blocked (& its variable) : untranslated

Right click on a buddy :
  - initiate chat : untranslated

Settings for WLM, advanced tab :

  - use http method
  - show custom smileys
  - use server-side alias
  - use direct connections
  - use user displays
  - don't show messenger plus! tags
are untranslated]

However the patch is always ok on the git (fr inserted in the "catalog" lines of the
makefile.
Comment 24 by mavosaure, Aug 20, 2009
There's also this issue in the Windows RC1 release.
Comment 25 by felipe.contreras, Oct 25, 2009
@mavosaure can you try installing msn-pecan yourself?

Maybe the debian packaging needs some tunning. If so, maybe you can also help fixing
it :)

The translations are not updated in RC1, that's why you don't see all the translations.
Comment 27 by felipe.contreras, Oct 25, 2009
devidfil according to launchpad the French translation is 100% up-to-date, just like
the Italian one.

I downloaded the latest translations and they match perfectly with the current git
master branch: except a bit of shuffling.

Other translations still need updating.
