Sorting without the Article (The, An, A, etc.)
Phase-Deploy
Updated Feb 4, 2010 by altman.m...@gmail.com

Introduction

Movies such as "The Godfather" and "A Bugs Life" should be listed under "G" and "B" respectively, not both under "T".

Details

To do this add the following line to your skin.properties:

sorting.strip.prefixes="The ","A "

Note: This is case insensitive.

The default in the provided skins is:

sorting.strip.prefixes="A ","An ","The ","Le ","Les "

What about other languages?

German: "Der ", "Die ", "Das", "Ein ", "Eine ", "Einer ", ...

Just add these to the sorting.strip.prefixes line as above

I've got some German films, so I'll add the German articles to sorting.strip.prefixes. However, I also have "Die Hard" in my movie collection. Can YAMJ somehow handle this without making me look for Bruce under H?

Can someone expand this page to include information about how to actually sort movies?

There are plenty of films that need would best appear in sequence (Die Hard, Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, etc.) that aren't named numerically. I'm fairly sure this is possible, but cannot find the pages describing it and it seems it should be on this page...

For sorting movie series, take a look at the "BoxedSets" wiki article. It makes one single image on your main menu for the entire set of movies with a special icon in the top right corner of the image then opens a sub-menu of the separate movies in the order that you specify.

A small question: How can I give the movie a different name so it will be sorted differently? For example: "Star Wars". I want this movie to be called "Star Wars: Episode 4"
