Q: Is MovieJukebox Supported on the Macintosh?

A: That's an easy question with a more complicated answer....

Try the MacInstallation page and see if that helps

MovieJukebox is a Java Application

MovieJukebox is written in Java 6 so it's not specifically "supported" on any given hardware or OS. There are a number of MovieJukebox users running the program on Windows PCs, Linux, and yes Macintosh.

Great, so this will run on any Mac, Right?

Well... Remember how we said that this was written in Java 6? To date (June 2008) Apple has only released Java 6 for Intel 64bit machines running Leopard. So if that's you, then feel free to download Java 6 for Mac OS X 10.5

How do I make this work on my 32bit Intel Mac?

Yeah, did you see where Java 6 was only available for Intel 64bit Macs? Your options are to lobby Apple and/or Sun to release Java 6 for the Mac, buy a new Mac, or run Linux/Windows/other OS with Java 6 support.

How do I make this work on my PPC Mac

Short answer, you don't. Long answer, see the options for a 32bit Intel Mac user.

Why isn't Java 6 available for the other Mac's, I don't think that's fair!

Yeah, like your mom said, life's not fair.

So, I've loaded Java 6, now what?

Well, you run the application of course! How? You will find a script file named MovieJukebox.sh in the folder where MovieJukebox was installed. Editing and running this script is all you need to do.

Any other gotchas for running on a Mac?

Well, maybe not exactly a gotcha but you'll likely need to tweak the script. You need to use the full path to Java 6. This is normally /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6/Commands/ but could be installed somewhere else if you didn't use the default location.

32bit Intel users comfortable with the command line can use SoyLatte? (http://landonf.bikemonkey.org/static/soylatte/)
