How to use different artwork (Posters/Fanart) and change the default artwork
Posters, Thumbnails, VideoImages, Fanart, Banners, Artwork
Updated Jun 26, 2011 by Stuart.Boston

Artwork

Sometimes the default poster art and fanart that is downloaded by YAMJ is not correct, not found or you would prefer a different version of the artwork, for example a alternative poster or foreign language poster.

YAMJ allows you to change these by two methods. You can specify the URL of the artwork in the NFO file (see NFO_Files) or, as discussed here, by using local artwork.

There are two types of artwork used by YAMJ, Posters and Fanart. Currently all skins use the Posters to display thumbnails of the movies and TV series. Fanart is not used by all skins.

Posters

To use your own version of a poster you should download it to the same place as the video file and give it the same name as the video file. Example:

\Movies\Minority Report.avi
\Movies\Minority Report.jpg

This will work for all video types except DVD VIDEO_TS folders and BLURAY BDMV. The posters for these should be named the same as the containing directory.

For Example:

\Movies\Blade Runner\VIDEO_TS\...
\Movies\Blade Runner\Blade Runner.jpg

and

\BluRay\Casablanca\BDMV\STREAM\...
\BluRay\Casablanca\Casablanca.jpg

Note: The filetypes that are supported by YAMJ are listed in the moviejukebox.properties file using the property poster.scanner.coverArtExtensions. See PropertiesConfiguration for more information.

Fanart

Fanart follows the same naming convention as posters, except to have a "token" added to the end of the filename to distinguish it from poster art.

This token is set in the skin.properties file with the property mjb.scanner.fanartToken. By default this token is ".fanart"

So the filename for Fanart would be "Video FilenameTOKEN.extension"

For example:

\Movies\Minority Report.fanart.jpg

or for directories

\BluRay\Casablanca\Casablanca.fanart.jpg

Banners

Banners follow the same naming convention as fanart above.

The token is set in the skin.properties file with the property mjb.scanner.bannerToken . By default this token is ".banner"

So the filename for Banner would be "Video FilenameTOKEN.extension"

For example:

\Movies\Chuck S01E01.banner.jpg

or for directories

\BluRay\Modern Family\Season 1\Season 1.banner.jpg

TV Series

TV Series are treated the same as movies, except that the poster and/or fanart should be named the same as the first episode.

For example:

\TV Shows\Chuck S01E01.avi
\TV Shows\Chuck S01E01.jpg
\TV Shows\Chuck S01E01.fanart.jpg

In addition, if you have your TV shows in individual directories, then you can use the directory method as the VIDEO_TS and Bluray example above.

For example:

\TV Shows\Lost\Season 1\Season 1.fanart.jpg

Video Images

VideoImages can be specified in the same way as other artwork, that is by naming the videoimage the same as the filename and adding the videoimage token (.videoimage) to the end of the filename before the extension.

For example:

\TV Shows\Heroes\Season 1\Heroes.S01E01.avi
\TV Shows\Heroes\Season 1\Heroes.S01E01.videoimage.jpg
\TV Shows\Heroes\Season 1\Heroes.S01E02.avi
\TV Shows\Heroes\Season 1\Heroes.S01E02.videoimage.jpg
\TV Shows\Heroes\Season 1\Heroes.S01E03.avi
\TV Shows\Heroes\Season 1\Heroes.S01E03.videoimage.jpg
etc...

Yes, you have to name it exactly as the video filename
