Mobile Jupiter user guide.

Introduction

This is an user guide that shown the features of Mobile Jupiter and how the user can configure it to his needs.

Install

Just copy the .jar and .jad files to the memory (or memory card) of you mobile. You will find these files in the compressed zip file at the downloads area of this site.

Use the applications brower of you mobile to find and start the program.

Starting up and overview

When you start Mobile Jupiter this screen will show up. Using the navigation keys of your mobile, you can select one of the three options:
  1. Start: Start the software, drawing jupiter and its moons using the current time of your mobile. The default setting are used.
  2. Settings: Open the settings menu.
  3. About: Show the about screen.
This is the main canvas screen where Jupiter and its moos are drawn. In the center of the screen one can see Jupiter. The size of Jupiter disc is related to the device's screen size.

During transit conditions, the moon's shadows is drawn over Jupiter disc in cyan color.

The drawing can be zoomed in and out (see the keyboard functions in this page).

The canvas screen has two modes of operation:

  1. Time Mode: The keypad is used to control the time used to calculate the position of the moons;
  2. View Mode: The keypad is used to control the position of the drawing in the device screen.

While the canvas drawing is shown, the user can access an options menu by pressing the functions keys of the mobile device.

Keyboard functions

General keys functions:

  • #: This key is used to change the operation mode;
  • 0: Invert the view South-North;
  • *: Draw the moons and orbital paths like a "top" view o Jupiter;
  • Functions keys: Shows the canvas options menu.

Time mode keyboard functions:

  • 1: Zoom out;
  • 2: Zoom default;
  • 3: Zoom in;
  • 4: Decreases time by 30 minutes;
  • 5: Back to the actual time. This key can be used to refresh the drawing;
  • 6: Increases time by 30 minutes;
  • 7: Decreases time by user specified amount in settings dialog;
  • 8: Do nothing;
  • 9: Increases time by user specified amount in settings dialog;

View mode keyboard functions:

  • 1: Rotate counterclockwise;
  • 2: Shift drawing upwards;
  • 3: Rotate clockwise;
  • 4: Shift the drawing to left;
  • 5: Center the drawing;
  • 6: Shift the drawing to left;
  • 7: Do nothing;
  • 8: Shift drawing downwards;
  • 9: Do nothing;

Settings screen

The settings screen is accessible through the initial screen or drawing canvas menu.

The following screenshots shows the settings screen. The functions of each field are described next to the picture.

While in the settings screen the user can start the drawing by the options menu on the bottom of the screen.

Here the user can override the date and time used to draw the moons.

The user can also modify the current time zone offset from the universal time.

Following in the settings screen, the user can choose if the drawing will be performed in the screen horizontal, vertical or diagonal. Drawing in the diagonal leads to a higher jupiter relative size.

In the visual settings check box group the used can configure the drawing according to his observing equipment. The default view of mobile jupiter is a direct view, as seing using binoculars. If using a refractor telescope the user should check the option "Invert horiz. and vert." to mirror the drawing. The other options can be used with diagonal mirrors.

The last two options of the settings screen lets the user define the refresh time and user time increment. The former one is the time interval that will be used to automatically redraw the graphic. The last one is the time increment/decrement that will be used when the user presses the buttons 7 and 9 while in time mode.
