How to use Mobbler.

Queuing Tracks

When Mobbler is running on your phone it will queue the tracks you listen to using the Nokia S60 Music Player.

Online and Offline Modes

If you are in online mode, Mobbler will scrobble tracks played through the S60 Music Player. You will also be able to listen to Last.fm radio stations which will also be scrobbled.

If you are in offline mode, tracks played though the S60 Music Player will be queued. Those queued tracks will be submitted to Last.fm the next time you switch to online mode.

You can switch between online and offline mode using the Options menu.

Starting Radio Stations

You can start a Last.fm radio station, using the Start a new station sub-menu. Please note that stating a station will stream mp3 data over your data connection. It is probably best if you only do this over WIFI or if you have an unlimited data plan with your operator. The makers of Mobbler cannot be held responsible for your phone bill.

If you are in offline mode you will be asked to go into online mode before you can start the radio station.

Radio Controls

  • The up button will tell Last.fm that you love the current track
  • The down button will tell Last.fm to ban the current radio track from playing on your radio stations again and automatically skip to the next track
  • The enter button stops radio station
  • The right button skips to the next radio station track
  • The left button (when a track is playing) lets you do things with the current track, like add to a playlist, share with a friend, see similar artists, see top albums, and so on.
  • Both the volume buttons and '*' and '#' can be used to adjust the volume

Check for Updates

You can check for updates to Mobbler through the Check for updates menu button. If there is a new version of Mobbler you will be asked if you want to download it through your phone's browser.

Export Queue to Log

If you want to avoid uploading your scrobbles to Last.fm using your phone's internet connection, and don't have wifi available, you can export the scrobble queue to a Rockbox log file. This file is saved at C:\Data\Mobbler\.scrobbler.log which you can then transfer to your PC and upload to using a uploader (these may or may not work for you).

Keypad shortcuts

  • 5 - Toggle scrobbling
  • 8 - Settings
  • 9 - Toggle large album art (3rd edition only)
  • * (and volume button) - Decrease volume
  • # (and volume button) - Increase volume

Language Patches

Mobbler translations often come in after a a release is made, and non-English users have to wait a while until the next Mobbler release. Also, some people would like to have Mobbler running in a language other than that which their phone is in.

You can now install language patches for Mobbler so you may:

  1. have Mobbler in any language, regardless of what language your phone is in, and
  2. get langauge updates as soon as we receive them, without having to wait for the next Mobbler release.

Install the language you want from here. No need to remove the original Mobbler application, just restart it and it will use the new language. To change back, either install a new language or remove Mobbler Language using the Application Manager.

Exit

If you exit Mobbler, using the Exit command in Mobbler's options menu, Mobbler will close and any tracks you listen to will not be queued or scrobbled with Last.fm.

It would be really useful to have an option to open mobbler when the phone's switched on... Or even better, with the music player.

Comment by talshafik, Jun 23, 2008

I use Powerboot to start Mobbler up at during boot. http://www.wireless-labs.com/download/powerboot.php

Comment by david.druckman, Aug 22, 2008

great application. Thank you!

Comment by lini.genesio, Aug 27, 2008

when i try to connect, the app gives me a message like this: "date/time on the phone is too different from date/time on the server". I'm sorry but i can't remember the exact text of the message as i can't connect my N95 to the internet now.

I tried it this night (1am). I also tried to change date (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009) without success.

Time settings on my N95 are: Time Zone: GMT +2:00 Rome Date: 26/08/2008 Date Format: dd mm yyyy Date Separator: "/" Time Format: 24h Time Separator: ":"

My phone is a Nokia N95 (RM-159), firmware revision is v21.0.016 (14-02-08). Phone language is italian and scrobbler installed in italian as well.

A curious detail: when i open Options->About... the app displays me this message: "mobbler 0.2.3STR_mobbler_about_text2" It seems a lack in translation text...

Thank you Genesio http://www.lastfm.it/user/genez81

The ultimate S60 music app. Great work.

Comment by achloetous, Sep 13, 2008

Great app! Is there any way to get a lower-fi version of my personal stream that takes less bandwidth? Of course over WiFi? it's no problem but over 3G it's eating up my 200MB/month plan quite fast.

Comment by jamcar60, Sep 22, 2008

I cant get it to work on my e71 it says mobbler note unable to connect- somethint to this effect. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Comment by itshuy, Sep 22, 2008

Would be great if the album cover could be displayed full screen on landscape.

Comment by antti.nissinen, Sep 26, 2008

I spend awfully long time for figuring out how to change the volume with my E90, since the instructions say that it works pressing up, but that would be "love this track" in my phone. Then I finally figured it out, opening the cover and pressing Chr + v or b did the trick.

Comment by pablofmz, Oct 12, 2008

someone knows how to change the volume in the N80? Like antti nissinen say the up button is for "love this track" and down is for bann the song.

Comment by henrylindsaysmith, Oct 21, 2008

I don't see the menu to listen to the last fm radio stream. it just always has the loging screen een after its connected.

Comment by arunmuralidhar, Nov 03, 2008

Thank you so much.. Excellent app..one of few useful and neat s 60 apps i have seen.

It would be great if you can manage to include an option to play tracks on my cell from mobler itself. My e71 music player isnt really friendly and i would be happy to replace it

Comment by stakillon, Jan 22, 2009

Yeah. On 5800 it doesn`t scroll music from player... We are waiting for updates

Comment by boonkoh, Jan 25, 2009

I'm having problems actually getting music to stream.

I'm using a Nokia e71 on the o2 network in the UK, getting full 3G signal.

I can start up Mobbler, it connects and handshakes to my account, and then displays the status as Online in the top right. However, when I try to play any of the stations, it manages to get the playlist, and the artist+song shows up. However, the cover art doesn't show, and the song doesn't play at all (stuck at 0:00), and then after a while the square stop button on the screen becomes a play button.

I have a feeling it might have to do with the connection setup, as in the top left the icon only shows as "3G" and not "3.5G" as is the case when I am surfing the net using the browser or on Skype.

Any ideas?

Comment by chico.al, Jan 27, 2009

I've just installed Mobbler on my N73 but I don't know how to make it scrobble or even queue the tracks. Could anyone, who has the same phone, help me online by MSN? I would be extremelly grateful.

I have an N95-3 and I can not get this to play music via 3G, but connection over wifi it works great...could be a great app if it worked right

Comment by luka666, Feb 28, 2009

boonkoh: Check if you have the right access point in the settings.

opusinlv: Check in the access points settings if your carrier by any chance uses a proxy server, because some proxy`s have problem sith streaming. Try removing the proxy server and check if it works....

Comment by thijsderaedt, Mar 03, 2009

Hi there,

got a similar problem here in the netherlands with HI from KPN. When at home using WLAN, mobbler works just fine. But when i set mobile internet as acces point, the songs just wont play. Just as you, boonkoh, it does everything it has to do, handshaking get online and stuff, but then the songs just wont play and get stuck at 0:00.

in addition, mine does say 3.5g instead of just 3. Still doesnt work tho. Anyone has any idea what to do? Its really a pity for the cool app it is!

cheers

so it doesnt works - i cant scrobble music :(((

Comment by inowhour, Mar 29, 2009

I have the problem with my N95 8GB with the hang when playing music through my 3G. It gets the playlist with no problem but just wont play any music. =[

Comment by hicks.brandon2, Apr 23, 2009

This works beautifully with the N82. Even accessible by the screenreader, mostly. Can't see the song title that's playing, but that's not much trouble. Everything else was easy. Thank you very much!!

One question, is there a plug-in so the music player will play and thus scrobble ogg files? No big deal if not, more curious than anything.

Comment by eartle, Apr 23, 2009

We are planning on adding support for other music players to be able to scrobble through mobbler. Potential one of those could play Ogg files.

Comment by mst...@tpg.com.au, May 04, 2009

Error with data connection 505 "Version not supported", any ideas folks? Running the latest version of Mobbler on an E71FP1 phone???

Comment by mads.tofte, May 22, 2009

One of the best applications I've seen for s60 - VERY good, no compromises, full functionality of last.fm, - uses it ALL the time, works perfectly via 3G on my N95 8GB, stutters maybe for 5 seconds during a 20 km ride in my car. - To the authors/author - keep up the good work, the community (s60) needs a programmer like you. And you are quite right in your decision to ad the "show cover functionality, because either you have a flatrate plan or you use this with wifi and then it doenst matter how much data you download. I'm going to compare this to the google mobile apps, apps i quality.

thanks

Comment by gderidet, Jun 16, 2009

I just bought a Nokia 5800. I was looking desperatly for a web radio and found nothing good for my phone until... Mobbler ! Fantastic app ! Just to mention that now you have to pay 3 $ per month to get it work. Which is very few if, like me, you listen to Mobbler all the day long. If you have a poor Internet connection don't forget to switch to 64 kbits ! You'll be able to listen to Mobbler with just an Edge connection. If your operator allows it, and watch your wallet !
