Mednafen closes immediately after I open it.

Did you specify any command line arguments? Are you sure they are correct?

My sound is jittery, broken up, distorted, etc.

Try increasing -soundbufsize.

I'm on Linux and sound doesn't work at all.

Try -sounddriver oss, alsa, sdl or jack.
