Timeline of Medieval Battles world history.

Welcome to the official timeline of the Medieval Battles World History. To submit a work of fan-fiction for review take a look at our guidelines and review process here.

The High Elven Libraries were complied from all private Elven libraries and by enquiry into the histories of the peoples of Draeloria. The histories of the Goblin Empire and the Giant Stronghold is largely speculative and only military events were corroborated.

Age of the Titans, Years 0-7000

The orders of angelic forces have been divided and sent into the many realms. They are charged with overseeing the structure of the inner worlds and the development of life within them.

Draeloria begins to take shape out of the void and a group of Angels take inhabitance above its plane.

A group of enormous, magical creatures of stone begin to populate much of the isolated mountainous regions of Draeloria and become a problem for the Angels. They crush much forested land and kill more animals then they could ever hope to eat. Hoping to spare the new world from becoming a barren wasteland and not wanting to slay unnecessarily, they put the Titans to sleep.

The Teaching of Magic to the Elves, Year 7,000

The Elven kind have established a network of cities within forested regions of Draeloria and use a highly developed language. They organize themselves under a tribunal of three kings and enjoy cultures unique to each tribe.

The Angelic horde determine that the Elves are ready to become aware of them and begin to walk among them.

Many among the Elves show great aptitude as aides to the Angels and are taught some of the arts the Angels themselves use. The weaker magics the Elves use become more strikingly in tune with the elements of the world, and the Angels feel secure to let the Elves continue developing without much influence.

Wandering of the Humans, Year 8,000

The shorter lived humans do not appear as selfless as the Elves, and so the Angels do not appear to them in the same way, but occasionally walk among them to gain a better understanding of their culture.

The Humans are nomadic and do not band together in large groups. They hunt and some farm sparingly. But generally they do not intermingle much and are very territorial.

Awakening of the Dwarves, Year 9,500

From the northern hills a small race of hearty folk awake as though asleep. The small group of Dwarves settle in a valley between the twin peaks of Northrond and Kel'thurum.

The Dwarves become aware that they are not alone in the hills, and discover pockets of Giants in caves nearby. Tensions escalate between the two races when many goats are missing from the Dwarven camps.

First Goblin War, Year 9,900

The Great Goblin army, composed mostly of their hardy Orcish allies, begin incursions into Elven lands. Decimating then unprepared forces and harvesting massive amounts of lumber, the Elves retreat deeper into the woods and send messengers while the Orcs are concentrating on their offensive.

Many small alliances develop as more races become affected by the Orc aggression. The isolationist Dwarves also agree to help some of the bands of warrior humans when the Giants become organized under a Goblin general and begin focused attacks on their camps.

The Orcish forces are eventually decimated and the Goblin Overlords are troubled by their failure to overtake the under-prepared Elves. The Dwarves cement their opposition to the Giants and push them east toward more barren mountains and use the resulting peace to build twin cities under their beloved mountains of Northrond and Kel'thurum.

Hiding of Alavorn, Year 10,000

During the resulting peace from the Orc's hasty retreat, many Elves determined to create a haven for their kind that would be impossible to find. They create a city deep in their wooded realm and bring the sum of their knowledge to bear on its enchanted defenses.

There were many Elves that decided to remain in contact with the other mortal races and continue to trade with them. They were not given the secret to the city of Alavorn so it could never be discovered by mistake.

Demon Fall, Year 10,180

The Angelic order's tensions reached a peak and the Demons could no longer tolerate the passing of knowledge to the mortals. Moving to open war with their own kind, they forced the Angels into the open and began using easily corrupted mortals as cannon fodder. To protect the innocent and the health of the world, the Angels reluctantly engaged what they now call the Fallen and swore to prevent their rise to power.

Sundering of the Elves, Year 10,245

A large contingent of the Elves no longer in contact with Alavorn moved away to the east and came into contact with some of the Fallen Angels. In exchange for allied service, these Elves were given secrets of dark magics.

Exile of the Dwarves, Year 10,248

The Fallen knew of the important role the alliance between the Elves, Humans and Dwarves played in the earlier Goblin War and quickly spurred the Giants to attack them offering them a share in the riches of the Dwarven kingdom. The Demons sent poisons into the Dwarven realm to weaken thier resistance and the Giants trapped the Dwarves in their cities that had now become tombs.

Taming of the Dragons, Year 11,860

The prides of wild wyrms had grown large, and were threatening the human settlements in the plains. They began hunting some of these beasts with the aid of some of the best Elven trackers. One young falconer noticed the dragons hunted in similar ways to the raptors he was skilled in training, and began assisting the hunters to learn more about them. After several years he realized the dragons were intelligent and communicated at a near human level. Capturing an egg, he was able to raise it and began to codify the Draconian language with the assistance of an Elven scholar.

Rise of the Necromancers, Year 11,900

The Elves' natural affinity for magic allowed the society of Shadow Elves to develop a new art with the dark magics given to them by the Demons. This art allowed them to spread unnatural disease that corrupted a body as it tortuously killed it. Their further experiments into corrupting life gave them the ability to animate the dead giving them a second life as a mindless, decaying corpse. The Demons were delighted and continued to feed information to the now greedy Shadow Elves who began to seek dominion over their brothers.

Second Goblin War, Year 11,932

At the prodding of the Demons to test out their skills in war, the Shadow Elves approached the Goblin Council and as a token of their alliance raised a mighty corpse of a fallen Orcish hero. The Goblins were eager to join in attacking the Elves and demanded a share in the bounty. The rich farmland of the humans lay between them and their goal, however but the Necromancers allowed the Shadow Elves to drive straight through the heart of the human kingdom without stopping. Raising the dead on both sides to fight again, allowed the Goblins to suffer very few casualties on their march toward the Elves wooded realm.

The newly tamed Dragons were brought suddenly to attack the rear of the goblins just as they reached the forest and were caught in an ambush by the Elven archers who were warned by the Angels. The sudden advance of the Angels into military action caught the Demons by surprise, and the Goblins faced the wrath of the Dragonflight nearly alone. The Shadow Elves, blinded by their greed pushed into the forest, but when they realized the Goblins weren't able to follow, fell back and attempted to raise their fallen warriors.

The fighting reached a standstill, as the Necromancers were able to reach the high ground and use their corpse army as a buffer to prevent large losses. After two days the dragon flight took many warriors and dropped them behind the lines of troops to engage the necromancers directly while decimating the goblins from above. Because of the large casualties, the allied forces retreated into the relative safety of the woods, and allowed the remaining Goblins and Shadow Elves to escape.

The Goblin forces hastily re-enlisted their former allies, the Giants, to help them regroup. With a few Necromancers ordering the battle, they besieged the human capital hoping to break the will of the humans. Utilizing the speed of their winged friends, the human force was able to scout out far ahead and were well prepared with many Elven archers supplementing their ranks when they reached the capital. This battle was far less chaotic, but there were still many losses due to the great offensive power on both sides. It was only until a particularly fierce Dragon was able to bring down several Giants that the Humans were able to gain a true advantage and broke through the siege.

Return of the Dwarves, Year 12,646

Though full scale war had ceased, it was not peaceful. Many small communities of humans would maintain very aggressive defense and attack any bands of their enemies that came near. The Giants began to take long raids into both human and goblin territory, no longer giving loyalty to other races. Prosperity was not widespread and all races had to maintain vigilance to ensure continued security. This was especially true of the Shadow Elves who had become irreparably separated from their cousins, the Wood Elves.

The exiled Dwarven Kings felt that they could no longer be kept from their beloved home, and determined to return to it. They brought a great force to the twin peaks and swept through the meager defenses. Most of the battle hardy Giants were out on their seasonal raids. The Dwarves quickly began repairing the defenses and secured a supply line to their allies among the Wood Elves.

Destruction of the Giant Stronghold, Year 12,647

Meanwhile a second contingent of Dwarves used their home in exile as a base from which to attack the ancient Giant Stronghold. It was largely abandoned, but the Dwarves knew it had strategic and mystical importance to the Giants and were determined to destroy it. As the raiding parties returned to Northrond to find the well prepared Dwarves occupying it, they attempted to flee and regroup on the mesa before their stronghold. They were then caught by the Dwarves fresh from the ruins of the Giant Stronghold and were massacred. The Dwarves easily took the high ground and kept the Giant raiders in disarray. After the field was secure, the Dwarves finished the leveling of the Giant Stronghold, ensuring that they would never rise to power again.

The Great Alliance, Year 12,659

With the elimination of the Giants and the return of the Dwarves, the Fallen wanted to solidify their power and press the Angels more directly for control over the fate of Draeloria. They gathered the Goblin empire and the Shadow Elven force together and began to bring their armies to their highest capacity.

The Angels, having insight into the Demons plans, approached the Wood Elves, Humans and Dwarves. The Wood Elves and Humans readily agreed, but the Dwarves remained neutral hoping to stay out of the notice of the Fallen Alliance and feeling secure in their remote mountain kingdom.
