A team within the School of Modern Languages at the University of Southampton (M3 Project) explored the potential of integrating Twitter with an existing Moodle course, investigating to see whether the short messages (Tweets) that it allows could encourage in-course participation from learners.

Moodle blocks were developed, and the code is available here under GNU license.

• Twitter Read - allows users to select and receive the most recent posts from either their friends feed, the public feed, or their own feed.

• Twitter Write - allows users to post to their Twitter account or a shared Twitter account, from within the Moodle environment.

• Twitter Users Map - retrieves the 10 most recent Twitter users from either a specified user's friends feed or the public feed, and displays their respective locations on a Google map.
