The idea of having haggisbot as a moderator for the Boston Glob chat was first thought up in May, 2008. Until June 11th, however, haggisbot was running on software called llamabot.

The new version of haggisbot, (0.1 at the time), was programmed starting with a simple PHP IRC bot tutorial and grew into what it is today.

Over time, haggisbot's commands became more for fun than for any real use, for example, the !rainbow command and haggisbot's ability to sense if someone is Dan.

Now, in mid-July, 2008, haggisbot is becomming open-source. The core is being completely redone. If you would like to have a development copy of haggisbot, you can use your favorite SVN client to svn co http://llamaslayers.googlecode.com/svn/haggisbot/trunk haggisbot-trunk

People who wish to develop haggisbot can sign up for the haggisbot Google Group. If someone contributes to the project with patches and suggestions enough, they'll be on the credits when the final version is rolled out.
