Usage

Device Access

To use this program you must have write access to your raw block devices. On most systems, this means having to run the program as root (or manually changing device permissions). You may use "sudo"; for example, in Ubuntu you might run the program as:

sudo ./wbfs_gtk

Basic Usage

When you run the program, it should show the contents of the first WBFS partition it finds (if any).

The left pane shows information about the loaded WBFS partition (the list of discs and the space usage). The right pane shows your filesystem (so you can select ISO files to add).

The available operations are:

  • Add an ISO file to WBFS partition: in the right panel, navigate to the directory that contains the ISO and select file and click "Add ISO" (or simply double-click the file).
  • Extract a disc from the WBFS to an ISO file: select the disc in the right panel and click "Extract ISO". The ISO file will be written to the directory currently viewed in the right panel.
  • Remove a disc from the WBFS: select the disc in the left panel and click "Remove Disc".
  • Format partition as WBFS: select the device and click the menu "Tools -> Initialize WBFS partition".

Selecting Other Partitions

You can change the currently displayed WBFS partition by selecting a device in the upper left corner of the window (the dropdown list named "Device") and clicking the green arrow on its right.

(If it shows an error about "bad magic", most likely the device you selected doesn't contain a WBFS partition.)

The program lists devices /dev/hd* and /dev/sd*, excluding the devices it thinks are mounted (according to /proc/mounts). You may choose do list the mounted devices anyway by selecting this option in the menu "View -> Show mounted devices".

I had a hard disk with two partitions...one ext4 (sdb1) and the other wbfs (sdb2). I was messing around with fstab and an SD card reader and somehow my partition table on the HD got screwed completely.

I used testdisk on linux system rescue CD to recover the ext4 partition, but no surprises that it didn't find the wbfs partition.

Now I have half my HD recognised as ext4 and the other half reporting as "unallocated" when I know it is chock full of my backups! Grrr.

Any ideas on how I can get my partition detected once more in wbfs-manager. Right now it just gives me "bad magic" all the time as it's not seeing the sdb2 partition that should be there, but isn't, but is as the data is on there I know it is!!!

If you want RPMs to install without compile the project from sources you can take a look here: http://mmornati.fedorapeople.org/wbfs-manager/

Enjoy!

beautiful. i feel like i am in heaven after all of the searching for something as flawless as this.

I keep getting....

"Can't open device '/dev/sdb1'.

(Do you have appropriate permissions?)"

When trying to format to WBFS. Didn't have this issue on my last install

Thank you so much for making this! One reason less for booting to windows! The only issue I've had so far is with Madworld. It wouldn't work when I copied it from your program, but it worked when I copied the same file from a windows wbfs manager. Go figure. Other than that, keep up the good work!

How do you mount a WBFS partition to linux? I'm using Ubuntu and it doesn't automount... and none of these WBFS-managers-wrappers ever properly explain how to get a WBFS partition mounted. Some specific, well-written instructions would be appreciated. You can't just use the mount command, because you need to reference a file system and linux doesn't speak WBFS... what am I missing? Thanks in advance.

My usb disk was found by linux-wbfs-manager which seems to be overall a superior application to the Cojiro wrapper and Wiithon which both failed me miserably.

Cheers

Flawless.

Comment by brgau...@gmail.com, May 23, 2010

@k.krstnsn are you using sudo wbfs_gtk ? or just entering the command, make sure you are root!

@mdconlon WBFS is a weird format, I wouldn't suggest trying to "mount" a partition like this anywho, use a wbfs manager(like this one) and it will take care of file operations. Personally i just have a 1.5TB WD mybook formatted fat32, I use it for my xbox360 and wii, works great!

Excellent app, works like a charm on Ubuntu 10.04. The only thing I see missing is a bulk iso install option. I generally load a couple iso's at a time, and it would be nice to "set it and forget it." Keep up the excellent work!

perfect, many many many thanks!!!!!!

Comment by c4lc...@gmail.com, Jan 8, 2011

Is there a way to transfert more ISO in a shot?

Comment by k...@koma.be, Apr 30, 2011

great job ! thx !!

Comment by contatoc...@gmail.com, Jul 13, 2011

As it is possible now to use NTFS and FAT32 partitions to store wbfs as files instead of on a partition, it would be marvelous if linux_wbfs include options to make iso to wbfs file and wbfs to iso file, without using partitions. And it would be safer, too ;)

Thanks for the great program BTW
