% the note should be on the staff, not in the free space after it.

\version "2.11.43"
\include "gregorian-init.ly"
\score {
 \context VaticanaVoice = "cantus" {
   a
 }
}

% the following line in gregorian-init.ly seems to trigger the error:
%         \override SpacingSpanner #'packed-spacing = ##t

% The bug was introduced in 2.11.x series.

This looks like was caused by the automatic ragged-right for 1 line scores. Joe can
you have a look?

Hi Joe,

You might have missed the discussion here:
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-user/2008-07/msg00671.html

Is there a way to keep this fix, while also having tight spacing for ligatures in
gregorian chant?

I realize that support for ancient music is pretty low on the priority scale, but it
would be a shame to release 2.12 with worse ancient spacing than 2.10 (assuming it's
easy to fix).

Cheers,
Neil
