Use the PresenceApi to allow for a two (or more)-tiered service model: if I'm online, show my widget; if I'm offline, show a different widget.
IntroductionTwo-tiered service models are appropriate when you wish to present the patron with direct access to a subject expert, if one is available, but if one is not available, you want the patron to become connected to your general reference service.
