LaTeX is a powerful and widely used typesetting language. There are a number of LaTeX and LaTeX-related tools available, however - for inexperienced users - finding and using the necessary tools that work with a given system can be time consuming. For this reason (and others) LaTeX is well-suited to the world of Web-Based apps.

A Client/Server based LaTeX editor means that the LaTeX binaries can be setup once at the server, exposing all the functionality that the user might ever need - and with no setup cost.

Implementation

LaTexLab will build on top of the Google Docs Base Editor (GDBE). The client-side will use plain GWT. On the server will sit the Python GData libraries for Google Docs integration.

For compiling LaTeX documents, the Common LaTeX Service Interface (CLSI) is used.
