KeyNote NF Last version (Beta)

For those of you who want and can test new funcionality before new version is released:

This executable (1.7.7 Beta) includes the following issues:

The executable can be downloaded from: http://groups.google.com/group/keynote-nf/files

I forgot to say that language files (.lng) are specific to each version. So, if Beta version doesn't include languages files, you will have to try it in English

Soon I will publish a new BETA (this one with language files included, probably) with the following improvement: all the functionality of the program will manage properly UNICODE strings.

20 sept 2009:
I have uploaded a new executable (1.7.7 Beta 2) that includes the issue mentioned:

Before releasing the new version of KeyNote NF I will correct some of the defects identified in the issue list.

07 june 2010:
Soon I will release the version 1.7.9, but I think that maybe many of you will like to test the corrections and prefer not to wait to the other few issues I will include to begin using the new beta.

So, I have uploaded a executable (1.7.9.1 Beta 1) that includes the following issues:

  • Issue #61: Improve lists (bullets and numbered lists): different styles, sublists, ...
  • Issue #325: Relative paths in Links (relative to .knt file)
  • Issue #251: Alarm Text Entry can make KeyNote to crash
  • Issue #258: Alarm date displayed incorrectly when the day was the same as today
  • Issue #224: Alarm window - date/time selection conflict - see screenshot
  • Issue #306: Exception setting alarm in no saved files (untitled)
  • Issue #77: Note display corrupted on resizing
  • Issue #107: Name of new nodes created by 'New node from selection' and clipboard capture with option 'use clipboard text' may be too long
  • Issue #264: Clipboard Capture with 'New node name' set to 'Use clipboard tex'" can cause the program to crash
  • Issue #136: Find with 'search all notes' can cause Keynote to close
  • Issue #198: Chinese characters detected erroneously as UTF8 in import
  • Issue #202: Cyrillic plain text in old .knt files is shown as Western characters
  • Issue #200: Inconsistent bullet indentation
  • Issue #208: Notes with links scroll on save
  • Issue #213: Clicking URLs in About menu results in Unexpected error: Invalid class typecast
  • Issue #242: Links incorrectly formed in Windows 7
  • Issue #227: Tab key causes tab to be inserted even if Note is set to "Read Only"
  • Issue #247: Exit with automatic saving causes Keynote to open minimized next time
  • Issue #279: Search all notes function can cause address violation
  • Issue #288: Underscores are dropped while exported to single target files
  • Issue #294: Minor bug on "Set Bookmark" and "Jump Bookmark" keyboard shortcuts

The executable can be downloaded from:
http://code.google.com/p/keynote-nf/downloads

Note that the language files you have for the actual version (1.7.8) will not be applicable to this version. With the release of the final 1.7.9 version I will incorporate all the language files updated.

08 aug 2011:
I have uploaded a new executable (1.7.9.2 Beta) that includes the following issues:

  • Issue #395: Keynote NF doesn't open my file, "buffer error"
  • Issue #325: Relative paths in Links (relative to .knt file)

18 aug 2011:
A new Beta is available (1.7.9.3 Beta) that includes the following issue:

Coud not load the Beta. Link not valid.

Comment by project member dpra...@gmail.com, Jun 20, 2009

It's a temporary problem of Google Groups. Please, try it later.

Comment by juancho, Jul 17, 2009

Keep up the great work!!!

Vamos que te ayudo como pueda con esto, traducirlo al español si queres...

Comment by project member dpra...@gmail.com, Jul 19, 2009

Hola Juancho, me parece fenomenal.

The Unicode encoding management is needed cruelly!! Thank you in advance..

Hola.

Comment by project member dpra...@gmail.com, Aug 22, 2009

Just discovered Keynote NF. I'm using Keynote as a local database. The first thing I'm missing is an option to duplicate a note. Would be great if this could be added.

Comment by perfect....@gmail.com, Aug 1, 2010

hi daniel. am very happy to see you picked up development of keynote (and will be happy to provide feedback on bugs/etc.). @wembley

Comment by mrdu...@gmail.com, Aug 20, 2010

hi Daniel. I am a big fan of KeyNote?. Used KeyNote?-NF a year ago but it was buggy back then. I've just tried the latest version & LOVE IT! Thanks for your effort. Been taking notes for like 3 years! :)

Comment by dkfm.ma...@gmail.com, Aug 21, 2010

Hi, I'm so sorry That your excellent program cannot build relative paths. For this reason it could not be fully used on a Stick!

Comment by project member dpra...@gmail.com, Aug 22, 2010

Hi armandmaas, there is an easy workaround to duplicate notes. You can use Tools -> Merge notes.. and select the same file you have open (save changes first if its necessary). You can then select one or several notes to include (in this case to dupplicate)

Comment by project member dpra...@gmail.com, Aug 22, 2010

Hello, dkfm.mayer, I see you have posted and deleted later two comments related to problems with links. I suppose that you were not using last (beta) version of KeyNote? NF. If you finally installed that last version, have you looked inside Issue #325: Relative paths in Links (relative to .knt file) ?

Don't forget that not absolute paths are relative to the folder where the file .knt is found. And that when you insert a link to a file it will be absolute by default, although you can delete part of that reference to make it relative. "c:\somefolder\myfile.knt" to "myfile.knt", for example.

Please, if you have problems with that functionality, include the comments in the corresponding issue. Thanks

I tried the original keynote way back in the day and loved it. I am so glad to see that someone has taken up the torch and continued development on this wonderful software. Keep up the good work! It's awesome!

Comment by 4er...@gmail.com, Jan 15, 2011

It's fantastic this programm. I looked a long time for something like this. Please go on in with it!

Comment by OzarkTa...@gmail.com, Feb 26, 2011

I downloaded it last night. Great program. I'm trying out the Beta. Will there be an update soon?

Everything works but spell checker. Any suggestions on how to get this working will be much appreciated.

Keep up the good work. I've used the trial offers of several expensive outlining programs, but I like this better. Amazing!

Comment by bxq...@gmail.com, May 22, 2011

Please add "Find Previous" function!

Comment by lando...@gmail.com, Aug 14, 2011

About the increase in size when importing images, I'd suggest creating a subfolder where the application could copy the pictures and refer to them similarly to the way the HTML does (if it is not easy for the application, we could do it manually, and link them), I mean only showing them instead of storing them. Personally, in this situation I use to copy the images to a specific local folder and then create a link to the image file. It is not perfect, as I can't see the image inline with my text, but it works.

This is a great program, I've tried several and Keynote stands out. There is one thing I miss, though:

Besides nodes, is it possible to add checkboxes to text and make todo lists?

I get lots of e-mails with lists of things to do, and I need to copy them and add checkboxes. I would love if could do that in Keynote.

Comment by marian...@gmail.com, Nov 8, 2011

Hi Daniel, I like this program enormously and I use it all the time. Thank you for your truly great work. I have a question regardig beta. At the moment I'm still using the 'true' version (1.7.8.1), but would like to try the newest beta. I understand that all I have to do is to copy the un-rared executable to the installation directory, is that right? Also, with those many new features, is any new 'help' available?

Comment by project member dpra...@gmail.com, Nov 28, 2011

Hello Mariank49 I recommed everybody to use the last version. It solves many questions, as you can see in this wiki. In the following direction it is explained how to use beta versions:

Hi Daniel this is Mansi from India. I just loved ur work and many many thanks for carrrying forward such an intelligent concept. Finally i was able to give up ever classic " The Guide" bcoz the features i saw in ur program were simply superb and this increases my hunger even more. And thus some doubts. Since i m not much techie can u plz tell me if i can password protect my .knt file, bcoz i read that it offers strong encryption but i was not able to find this option anywhere. plz help me if i m missing sthg. Secondly i did notice that inserting even small images like 50Kb types makes the total file size run into MB's. Thirdly is there a feature in software where i can keep the screenshots of webpages as treenodes? dont want it to refrence html file seperately but just make a snapshot of webpage which consists of text and images(not necesarily in exact format but just for reference) Also when i enabled clipboard monitoring , it worked like a charm , except it cud not pick up "print screen" images.

I m sorry if i bothered u with my bombarding questions, but plz do help me if u have some spare time. Thanks , MANSI

Hi! I love this program. I'd like to be able to give different nodes different passwords.

Comment by Steve.Be...@gmail.com, Apr 26, 2012

Hi Is this an active Wiki...not sure it looks very active, but I've been a long time KeyNotes? (though not very sophisticated) and glad to see the newer version.
