Posted on Dec 19, 2008 by Massive HippoI've been looking for a custom scroll bar solution for a bit and having trouble finding one that does both horizontal and vertical scrolling. I think jScrollPane is a good candidate for this feature.

Posted on Aug 13, 2009 by Happy GiraffeI think that one is pretty old and clashes with some other plugins but it may work for you.
Official horizontal support is still on the roadmap but I work on this in my (very) limited spare time so I'm not sure when. If it's important to you donations to the project help with my prioritisation...

Posted on Oct 18, 2009 by Grumpy ElephantWell first off, this plugin performs excellently. Major props!
But, that being said, the instances when I need a vertical scroll bar are not as common as when I could use a horizontal one. Pages scroll vertically be default, but horizontal scrolling could often come in much more handy: Such as the redesigned iTunes Store, or apple.com/mac, or perhaps for a wide panoramic photo that you want to display at full height in a fixed width site.
I'd be more apt to donate to development of the plugin if this were a higher priority. As is, I haven't really needed a vertical scroll bar.

Posted on Oct 28, 2009 by Helpful PandaIn recent designs, horizontal scrolling strart to become a real trend.
In two of my websites, we needed solution to style an horizontal scrollbar and we compatibilities issues using the old jscrollhorizontalpane.
I would donate up to 100$ to help this function to be developped.

Posted on Jan 3, 2010 by Helpful BirdThe major problem with jScrollHorizontalPane besides compatibility issues is that it is GPL only, which is not suitable for most developments and developers. In fact jscrollpane is one of the most stable scrollbar replacements and with this issue done would gain much more popularity!

Posted on Jan 3, 2010 by Happy GiraffeHi,
Thanks for all of the interest on this ticket and sorry for the slow response to some of you, I've been really busy...
suit@rebell.at - I imagine it would take me about a day to program. If you wanted to sponsor the development you can get in touch directly and I can tell you my day rate and my availability (I should be able to squeeze it in within a month of when I start). If you don't want to totally sponsor it then any donation is welcome and will bring it up my "spare time priority" list.
daveJay42 - Thanks, glad you like the plugin. Re. usecases for a horizontal scrollbar, I'm not convinced they are more usual than a horizontal one. I find that horizontal scrolling is often better implemented as a carousel or other "item at a time" system. Re. the priority of the work, please see the comment above.
mounir - Thanks! This would certainly be appreciated and would get me moving on this... If you and the others were willing to make the donations then I'll see what I can do about getting this done (I have two busy weeks now but hopefully straight after that). If you don't want to donate before seeing the results then maybe do something like half before and half after?
vadim@email.de - I don't know much about jScrollHorizontalPane but when I looked at it there were certainly problems with it's implementation as well as with it's license. As mentioned above, I'd love to find the time to implement robust and MIT licensed horizontal scrolling, the question is (as always) of time and priorities...
Thanks again for all of your interest - I've raised the priority of this issue as a reflection of this,
Kelvin :)

Posted on Jul 22, 2010 by Happy GiraffeHi,
Somebody has got in touch and offered to sponsor half of the development costs. I haven't heard any more from mdavidromney (above) or anyone else who expressed an interest in sponsorship. If anybody else wants to contribute then I would be able to start work on this next week with the aim of being done before the end of the month.
In the absence of that, I would be happy to take a look at any patches (although the last time somebody tried to implement it the code wasn't robust enough to include in the plugin and I would have had to rewrite it anyway).
Get in touch with me directly ( http://www.kelvinluck.com/contact/ ) if you are interested in sponsoring the work, otherwise update this ticket with any patches etc,
Thanks,
Kelvin :)

Posted on Aug 17, 2010 by Happy GiraffeI have just announced the beta of a completely rewritten version of jScrollPane:
http://groups.google.com/group/jscrollpane/browse_thread/thread/c1bc1bf63e3f80d8
It includes support for horizontal scrolling built in to the plugin. Please try it out and report any problems to the google group,
Thanks,
Kelvin
