Supports all valid bit depths (grayscale/color), interlacing, paletted images, alpha channel/transparency, gamma correction, access to most standard chunks, private chunk handling, and progressive display.

Note: The latest version (2.x) requires JDK 1.2 or higher. The last JDK 1.1-compatible version is 1.3.0, available here.
