NetworkSelector

Description

NetworkSelector controls all wireless aspects of your card. It can -

  • Turn the card on or off if you do not have an external switch.
  • Display the network you are associated with currently.
  • Display any unencrypted networks in the area.
  • Choose which network to associate with if there are many available
  • Change the state of the wireless LED (if equiped).
  • Switch to Ad-Hoc or monitor mode.

Caution

Each version of NetworkSelector is matched to the IWI driver it was included with. Mismatched versions will not function properly.

Where to get it

NetworkSelector should be included in the DMG file of the driver you are installing along with the package file.

How do I launch NetworkSelector ? From what I understand here, it is part of the DMG.

Comment by federalhotdog, Apr 21, 2008

I just downloaded "PROSet/Wireless 2200b/g and 2915a/b/g OS X 10.5 SVN latest" and noticed that when i opened the dmg on my mac, there is only the package and no Network Selector. Is there another way of getting this?

Comment by fascox, May 08, 2008

Comment by Sgourakis, May 13, 2008

As federalhotdog said there is no netselector in the pack

Comment by lukeroberta, May 17, 2008

To those concerned about missing NetworkSelector: You have to install the package first, and it will be listed under Applications. On mine, the NSGUI app doesn't work, but the command line Network Selector works fine.

Anyhow, when you open the DMG, all you see is the install package. Install it, THEN look for Network Selector. :)

Comment by jipeng.gao, May 23, 2008

but it doesn't work properly from the latest version of 2200 bg, mates, pls help or anyone has earlier versions which works well??

Comment by tonman87, Jun 06, 2008

If you want to extract the NetworkSelector from the install package, control click on it and hit Show Package Contents, then look for it in Archive.pax.gz

Comment by pmsHarlequin, Jun 08, 2008

I have a 2200 bg wireless adapter on my dell, and network selector sees the SSDI, but when I enter the wep key, it say bus error and terminates. any thoughts?

"Could not get ID for kernel control. 2 logout completed?"

What can I do from here?

Hi, Im using intel iwi 3945 and never found any nsgui.app after installation. I have a single file "networkSelector", which seems to work :

- I can't turn wifi on or off. - I don't see any (3) or (4) option, only 1-2-5, 1 not working - But... I can see networks !! How exciting, as I never had kernel panics, and never saw anyone reporting network list under 3945 driver.

But... Trying association does nothing, except return to back menu.

How can I find how to make it work ? I'm not a Mac Programmer but I have good. roots.

Help me...

Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with Intel 4965, so I installed iwi4965. The system boots normally and I can see my wireless card in Network. Then I do a scan with networkSelector and it reveals my wireless network correctly, but when I try to connect to it, it shows "Trying to associate" and it returns to main menu without connecting. The network is without WEP. Any help?

Comment by JCalhoun.ajmac, Jul 30, 2008

Hello, I installed the iwi4965 and hte system boots normally, but when I open the networkselector it does not come up with any options. It only says:

Last Login: d m t on ttys000 /Applications/networkSelector ; exit; Macintosh:~JMAC$ /Applications/networkSelector ; exit; Could not get ID for kernel control. 2 logout

completed? So what does this mean and how can it be fixed? I did make sure the the NetowrkSelector? was the correct version with iwi3945 and os x leopard 10.5 So i'm not sure what to do from here. Thanks :)

Comment by jtregisteraccount, Jul 31, 2008

When I try to run NetworkSelector, it happens the same to JCalhoun.ajmac: "Applications/networkSelector ; exit; Could not get ID for kernel control. 2 logout" What should I do?

I'm getting the same thing. If i use NS thru terminal i get BUS ERROR after entering the wep key. Or if i use the NSGUI i click connect after hightlight my access point but after i enter the key, i get a loading circle and then nothings happens :(

And after i intalled the IWI drivers, my network preferences screen crashes/closes within 3 seconds of me opening it.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

But i was not able to do anything further. The DMG doesn't include the network selector so was not able to see the working also. Please Help if anyone has solved this issue.

Can somebody provide detail instructions on how and where to install the Network Selector and how to install the driver?

Comment by javi1r, Dec 09, 2008

I have the Intel 4965. I have the same problem as the majority of people. The installation went fine. It rebooted normally. It detected the network connection. When I run Network selector I have only option 1, 2, 5, 0. With Option 2 I see my network, I select it but does not associate with it nor asks me for the password to connect to.

Any help on how to make it work will be greatly appreciated.

Comment by FranzJagt, Jan 26, 2009

I had the "Could not get ID for kernel control" problem. After I updated from Kalyway 10.5.2 to 10.5.6, this problem was solved. However, since - as far as I understand - only unencrypted networks are possible to connect to, this whole thing is quite useless, isn't it? Correct me if I'm wrong!

Sincerely yours chris

Comment by FranzJagt, Jan 26, 2009

For those who want to know how to update: Check out http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=1130d4890e1e9ea0f2ac09bb00a3ac5a&showtopic=109102 (however, I updated to version 10.5.6, not to 10.5.5 as mentioned in the tutorial)

Sincerely yours chris

Comment by liu.andrew, Feb 22, 2009

Like FranzJagt?, I updated my Kayway from 10.5.2 to 10.5.5. It fixed the 'Could not get ID for kernel' issue for intel 3945 driver. However, I was unable to connect to a 'secure' wifi, nor did the 'trying to associate' work..

Anyone else?

Comment by vladevil, Sep 17, 2009

For the people who shows the message "Could not get ID for kernel", you should change "IO80211Family.kext" for "IO80211Family.kext.origin".

En español. Para los que les salta el problema de "Could not get ID for kernel", hay que cambiar el archivo "IO80211Family.kext" por "IO80211Family.kext.origin", para eso lo mas sencillo es usar el kext helper.

un saludo
