method of iwi kext

Introduction

This is the current installation document for iwi2200.

Supported Hardware

  • Intel Pro/wireless 2200BG/2945ABG MiniPCI

System Requirements

  • Apple80211.framework and IO80211.kext from 10.4.7 . iwi drivers no longer need these files.

Steps

1) Download the appropriate driver from the main page

2) Close all applications that are running

3) Mount the DMG file you have downloaded

4) Copy the matching version of NetworkSelector to a place that is easy to remember and run it to configure your card

5) Open the package in the newly mounted drive to load the installer program.

6) Click continue to install and select the hard drive where OSX is installed

7) You may have to enter your password before the installation will continue

8) When the installation completes the installer will ask you to reboot.

9) After the reboot open "Network Preferences" and the adapter will be listed.

Comment by kaaspad, Oct 31, 2007

For all who are having the crash problem, I had the exact same problem, you DON'T have to re-install, to fix this there are two ways to fix it without reinstalling: 1. boot from os86x install cd, when you get to the install page, on top choose utilities->terminal, then type in: rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/iwi, now reboot regular, you should be fine. 2. boot from ubuntu cd, do apt-get install hfsutils, mount -t hfsplus /dev/partition? /mnt/mac, rm -rf /mnt/mac/System/Library/Extensions/iwi, now reboot

this will get rid of the driver and not cause the crash.

idem.. i've a r50 ibm laptop with 2100 pro wireless.. osx 10.4.7 i've tested iwi3945 .. crash.. then iwi2100 .. crash then iwi2200 .. crash..

sob.. crash :(

Comment by steven.persyn, Nov 08, 2007

Hi, I also have the intel Pro/wireless 2100 card. I tested it with mac os x 10.4.8 on my Acer travelmate 6 type. (BTW, it works faster then windows xp, and runs with sound and good graphics) but no ethernet or wirelless. For the ethernet problem I use IONetworkFamily.kext wich works. But i really want to get that wireless internet too, so i tried the iwi2100 wich did ligthed up the network card but it didn't become a network port in the preference "network" of mac os x. So i guess that's why the network selector crashed when i tried to list the wireless networks. ( Mac os X self, didn't crash , so that's oke ). Anyway I would like to help out by testing new drivers for the 2100 card. you may send them to the follow adres "fffffff123456789@hotmail.com". And then one more thing , it's probably quit stupid to ask, but is there a way to install a linux driver on mac os x ? Or does it have to be recompiled and rewritten ? thx

Keep up the good work:)

Install the iwi4965.dmg cause me lost the HD boot. It's says something like "Can not fild com.apple.Boot.pList" when I use DVD to boot.

I'm installing Leopard on my Toshiba Laptop which has an intel4965agn in it, and patched with BrazilMac? files.

Also when I use kextload -t to load the driver, it make it freeze.

I'm trying to rm -f iwi4965.kext from Terminal, and reboot, still don't boot.

It didn't work for my laptop.

Comment by soundgardo, Nov 11, 2007

re: intel 3945abg wireless pro/set

luckyly my system didn't crushed and it reboot normally tough once it says so that system crashed with panic symol at start up, but reboot again solves this problem. then it works as it described here in. net work preference shows new adaptor, with messege got new port and listed ethernet slot pci8086 and then nothin....until now no operation, wireless led dosen't wake up for once.

network selector dosen't work, it's operation hang when tried to lunce.

Thinkpad x31 Intel 2200bg Installed iwi2200svn

Everything worked great as far as activating the card, and it can see available networks. But when I type in my wep key, it cannot get a valid dhcp address. Will only get 169.254.253.109.

Comment by polara64, Nov 29, 2007

I should also mention that it DOES connect if I turn off encryption. I have a d-link di-624 router.

Dell Latitude D820 3945 with Leopard 10.5.1. Panic's and first time it removed my Darwin Bootloader.

I patched my Hard drive with EFI 8.0 and GUID partition. I have PrePatched? BrazilMac?'s Installed on First partition and Vanilla Leopard on 2nd partition. Both OS's updated to 10.5.1.

Both have NVinjectGO for the Graphics.

Rest of the D820 is pretty much the same as any other D820.

Hopefully with all that I have written here the driver can be updated or fixed. Once that is done I will donate!!

Trying to install 2200bg on osx86 10.4.1 on Gateway 8510gz; Installer runs fine, no crashes. However, NS will not run, GUI or otherwise.

Also: 3) Mount the DMG file you have downloaded 4) Copy the matching version of NetworkSelector to a place that is easy to remember and run it to configure your card 5) Open the package in the newly mounted drive to load the installer program.

I don't understand how to perform step 4.

Not a noob, but not extremely experenced, just need assistance...any would be greatly appriciated.

Pardon my ignorance, but the instructions say to copy the "networkSelector" to a prefer directory; however, when i downloaded teh iwi drivers only 1 DMG file is provided and when mounted into the macOS only the iwi2200.pkg file is in there, if i double click on it, then the installation starts? I'm I supposed to get the NetworkSelector from somewhere else?

I appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Comment by brianpavey27, Aug 28, 2008

I cant find the network selector in all the files

Comment by williamjv, Aug 28, 2008

that's exactly what i posted right before you but still no reply :(

I downloaded the file from the site but its just the pckg file. No networkselector is provided.

Comment by williamjv, Aug 28, 2008

So I found the NetworkSelector. For those who are looking for it in the "zip file" dont bother. The actual NS gets placed under your applications menua after you run and install the package (you'll find both there NetworkSelector & NSGUI) I guess the instructions need to be updated as we no longer need to place the NS file anywhere (again, it gets placed under your applications menu)

Now, I was able to installed the IWI2200 drivers, the installation went fine and the system did not crash after rebooting; however, as listed in the instrucitos, once I rebooted every time i try to access "Network Preferences" the window crashes/closes after 3 seconds of opening it. I am able to load both NS and NSGUI and i am able to see the access points around me (including mine) but when i try to connect thru NS (terminal) and get prompt for the key, i enter it then get BUS ERROR. If i use the NSGUI i enter the key, then get a loading circle and nothing else happens (it never connects)

I tried the steps listed by Glebov.iv but i got the same results.

My steps:

Update my 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 Install iwi2200 Uninstall (open Terminal)

sudo -srm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/iwiXXXX.kext (replace XXXX with your specific driver)rm -rf /Library/Receipts/iwiXXXX.pkgrm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache -k /System/Library/ExtensionsInstall? iwi2200 again Reboot

Anyone who can provide any other ideas or suggestions i would really appreciate it!

Will V.

Today I brought my laptop to work and the nsGUI icon does not appear, but I still can see the card on Network preferences. I uninstall, reboob, and reinstall the iwi2100, reboot again. For a second the icon appeared in the bar. I went to the network preferences because it recognize a new device, I hit apply, and automatically the icon dissapear and I could not connect to the network. I went to terminal and use the networkSelector and it try to connect for a second to the unsecure network I choose but after less than a minute it lost connectivity. I did the same procedure for a while, but now it won't connect. I am using OSX 10.4.9 Any suggestions how to fix it?

I have a nexoc Osiris S620 II Notebook with an 4965 agn card... It works fine to find Networks with NetworkSelector, but when i'm trying to associate i get the message "you have to restart your computer"...

Comment by newmediaone, Oct 23, 2008

I will commit 20 of the 100 Euros needed to get the tools to allow this great coder to complete the driver for the popular 4965 card.

If 4 other people will do the same, we'll all get the driver we so desperately need.

It's well worth it and good Karma to give back to this developer.

Anyone else ready to help?

is it going on???

Comment by lphotios, Dec 14, 2008

Hey, I installed the 3945 without any problems. Before the installation, under Airport, it I dont think it found anything, and you could press Turn On, but nothing happened. Now, It says that the cable for airport is not plugged in. Any ideas?

Comment by john.e.b.good, Dec 15, 2008

Hello, got the 3945 detecting access points, also got it compiling with 22 errors. (normal?) Can any developers give me a little direction for debugging and continuing development on the 3945 drivers. It is VERY close to working. I'm running iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5 9.4 Vanila kernel, kernel flags (cpus=1 -f) Toshiba Tecra M7 tablet. Wireless and tablet drivers are the only things not working for me right now. (Audio works through speakers) I'm going to start hanging out in the IRC channel. Just need a little dev insight. Please project owners, allow me to help.

exact same symptoms as make4u2d0 btw... let me know if I can be more detailed to help out debugging :)

Installed 3945. Tells me that my ethernet cable is not connected...wireless obviously is not working still...

NetworkSelector doesn't do anything on my toshiba a100.

Comment by dshadowwolf, Jan 14, 2009

Tried the default iwi3945 and had no luck getting it to work - NetworkSelector did nothing and the network panel said "cable not connected". Uncommented the IO80211 define and the driver began crashing at start - "super::start failed" and it was calling free() after that and that free() was causing a panic.

Comment by dshadowwolf, Jan 14, 2009

no go - refuses to allow unload with a "hanging reference"... still no idea why it reports "super::start failed"

Went back to the default and it still refuses to associate. But I do see some lines in the source that were commented out - they seem to be related to telling the drivers private 802.11 code to associate. Uncommenting them leads to a kext that doesn't load. Will try adding them as 'extern "C" { ... }' later and trying that...

3945 not working this suckz

Comment by stownsen...@sbcglobal.net, Jan 20, 2009

iwi4965 not working. I can get it to scan, but it won't do anything else. I tried with 2 unencrypted networks and 1 encrypted network, and 'associating' with them did nothing in all 3 situations.

Comment by mujeebmn, Feb 16, 2009

I can't get this to work either; Although I do have the blue light on, but it won't detect any networks.

Comment by felixlefix, Mar 06, 2009

to anyone with intel 3945 driver or any other that is under development: it looks like that after reboot it crashes! :P thats probably normal because the driver is not ready yet...

if you need to connect via wifi wait for the driver to be developed or buy a cheap USB wifi adapter driver is developed? to do your job...

Thanx for the developers for trying and i'll be also waiting for the drivers to be ready...

Comment by Gardias, Mar 07, 2009

I'm on an Aspire 9410 with the 3945 driver.. No crashes, no kernel panic, and NetworkSelector can see networks, though I assume WEP/any other kind of encryption still doesn't have support because I can't actually connect to any of them, and I know they all have encryption. I'll try with an unencrypted network tomorrow when I have access to my own router. Although I'm not expecting it will work.

Comment by sporty04, Mar 12, 2009

Dell 700M running Kalyway 10.5.1 - 2200 b/g drivers. Works with WEP only. Have to turn the power on for the Network Selector upon each boot up. Only seem to be able to get it work using DHCP with manual address. Also have to re-detect the ssid, and re-enter the WEP key. All things considered, my hats off to the developers working so hard to bring us these cool drivers.

Comment by Dergottdergrunten, Mar 26, 2009

On a HP Pavilion dv9500. Installed the drivers, but nothing works.

Comment by arielbernal, Apr 01, 2009

The solution for the "trying to associate" issue is the following

boot: -s

mount -uw /

rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/iwi

rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

reboot

and after this don't try to install it again so you'll never have this issue again. I checked the code and it is crap, I 'm really surprised that someone got it working. Don't waste your time.

I have a dell latitude 820 with the 3495. All have tried all the possilities and nothing in the internet make it work properly.

The only way that I found to have internet on my hackintosh was setting up a bluetooth lan between two computer using PAN and configuring the mac to use the computer (windows by the way) with internet access to be my proxy. It works fine indeed :-)

Hi, I have a Dell latitude D630 with a intel 3495 wifi card. Installed iAtkos 5i. Works like a charm, but when I install iwi3945.kext, I can see networks in the networkselector, but cannot connect (no security)...

Please Help!

I'm having trouble trying to get my 2915ABG card working. After installing the driver package on iPC 10.5.6, the Network Preferences always crashes and opeing Airport results in a kernel panic. Plus, through the NUGUI, it gets to "obtaining IP address" but not further. Has anyone else have trouble with the 2915 ABG?
