EcomorphFaq
Updated Feb 4, 2010 by hannes.j...@gmail.com

post your questions here I'll try to compile FAQ from them

Does it work with multiple screens?

Yes, if you use xrander, NVidia TwinView or ATI BigDesktop to make the monitors appear as one Screen. then start run enlightenment_start -evil with -fake-xinerama-screen 2048x768+0+0 for example

Garbled windows with NVidia, wrong updates of screen I heard setting this should help. i.e. it modifies xorg.conf so you have to restart X nvidia-xconfig --composite nvidia-xconfig --allow-glx-with-composite nvidia-xconfig --render-accel nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals -d 24 nvidia-xconfig --damage-events

you can also edit /usr/local/ecomorph.sh and set INDIRECT="yes"

I cant switch desks, what's wrong?

Make sure ecomorph is running and that either plane, wall or cube+rotate plugins are loaded.

Aaaah dropshadows all over my Desktop!

Turn off the dropshadow module and get some 'real' shadows instead: Load the 'decoration' plugin, start 'emerald' (use a version from 0.7 and above) and configure the shadows with emerald-theme-manager to your liking.

Why do my windows not wobble?

Enable the 'move' and 'wobbly' plugin.

Which Plugins do work ok?

  1. dbus needs to be enabled to trigger mouse and keyboard bindings from e
  2. move this plugin is needed for wobbly window movements.
  3. expo
  4. scale
  5. ring switcher
  6. shift switcher
  7. desktop wall
  8. plane
  9. cube needs rotate cube
  10. cube reflection
  11. blur (if your gfx card supports it)
  12. motion blur (ditto)
  13. minimize (zooms window from and to the bar if you use itask-ng)
  14. window previews shows window previews when used with itask-ng)
  15. animation (shade does not work)
  16. fade
  17. water
  18. scale addons
  19. switcher (though the bg is not shown)
  20. wobbly wobbles windows. Requires: move
  21. zoom works only somehow.. needs fixing

What is on your TODO list, what could I help with?

  1. a dropshadow plugin based on the decoration plugin and e's dropshadow module to replace the need for a decoration-manager (emerald and such)
  2. make a module from the code added to e (with only a minimal preloaded file to override some of e's functions), so that it can run with vanilla e
  3. update ecomp to current plugin api (to use those new modules with less changes)
  4. fix or add what you like to, if it works or you have questions let me know (=

Hi, I think there is a need to add shorcuts to zoom and to cube. I've seen the xml in the source, but once compiled, there aren't added as the other plugins (as expo)

this is great stuff, thanks a lot. I'd like a way to disable dropshadows for certain apps though (like in compiz decoration plugin where you can add window classes or names to neglect), e.g. for conky and screenlets. Or did I overlook something and is that already possible? Anyway, keep up the good work!

Sorry, conky is without shadows, so that's ok. But screenlets do have them (I run e17 on ubuntu, with screenlets package). Also if a window is maximized or reaches the side of the workspace, the dropshadow is visible on the next workspace. And conky's built-in transparency is not supported; error message: X Error of failed request: BadMatch? (invalid parameter attributes)

Major opcode of failed request: 2 (X_ChangeWindowAttributes?) Serial number of failed request: 170 Current serial number in output stream: 171
These are just minor annoyances, I'm very happy with ecomorph. Thx again.

How do I change the opacity of windows when they lose focus? I can't spot the option.

Comment by wingfeat...@gmail.com, Mar 26, 2010

I can't get this to work on Gentoo, using fglrx (Radeon 5850). I get the "No whitelisted driver found" message when I try to start Ecomorph inside E17 (installed using the official "efl" overlay).

Any ideas? Thanks!
