30HowTo (How to use OM on iPhone 3.0.) Wiki page commented on by jmcleish   -   Thanks Scott et al. Just got this working on itouch 3.1.2. One problem i had was in creating the symbolic link. I already had a folder called MapTiles, and this was stopping the ln command from creating the link. I renamed the existing folder (just in case I stuffed something) and ran the command again and it worked like a charm. thanks all

Wiki page commented on by kokkhai   -   Handling Directions.plist (or Route) NOTE: While in wifi coverage and search for a direction, do not use Address from Contacts. Use from Bookmarks instead - otherwise Maps will lock to this Directions every time it loads even a new Directions is compiled. 1) Generate Directions, then exit Maps 2) Backup Directions.plist located in /private/var/mobile/Library/Maps to a folder in iPhone (via SSH or Mobile Terminal) 3) When certain Directions.plist is needed, just copy the backup file back to Maps default folder at /private/var/mobile/Library/Maps using Mobile Terminal (apparently you want it out of wifi coverage!) Steps using Mobile Terminal Commands to use: 1) Open Mobile Terminal 2) If the backup folder is called "HometoDownTown" in Directory "private", go to this backup folder, type: cd /private/HometoDownTown 3) Copy Directions.plist to the Maps default location, type: cp Directions.plist /private/var/mobile/Library/Maps Done! Launch Maps and you will find your backup Directions! Hope it Helps * Ki *

Wiki page commented on by maucotel2010   -   Here's the problem I'm having, when I go into mobile terminal and type "dpkg -i OfflineMaps_3.0_preview_iphoneos-arm.deb" (without the quotation marks) then it says "cannot access archive: no such file or directory" Does this mean I transferred it over to my ipod touch into the wrong place? What I did was transfer the file (using WinSCP) into the /private/var/root folder. Should I put it somewhere else?

30HowTo (How to use OM on iPhone 3.0.) Wiki page commented on by maucotel2010   -   My issue is that I don't know where to type. I was able to use WinSCP to put the 3.0 preview version of the app on my ipod touch as scottwaun instructed, but now I don't know where to type those commands. Is there some command prompt I'm supposed to open to type those in or something? Sorry, this is probably a really stupid question, but all of this is brand new to me. Also, as a side note, if and when I'm able to get maps onto my ipod touch in this fashion, will I be able to enter gps coordinates (while offline of course) and see where that is on the maps? Or would I need an internet connection for that? Thanks everyone!

Also, at step 4, "4) Run the following commands over SSH: (to make it work on iPhone 3.1.2) cd /private/var/mobile/Library/Caches ln -s Maps/MapTiles?/ MapTiles?" How do I go about doing this? Again, I'm brand new at ssh, so please excuse my ignorance.

30HowTo (How to use OM on iPhone 3.0.) Wiki page commented on by scottwaun   -   How to get this working with 3.1.2 iPhone (step by step) 1) Install the 3.0 preview version of the app by downloading the following link, and copying to your iPhone over SSH or SCP (I assume you know how to do this) http://iphoneofflinemap.googlecode.com/files/OfflineMaps_3.0_PREVIEW_iphoneos-arm.deb 2) Install by typing "deb -i OfflineMaps_3.0_PREVIEW_iphoneos-arm.deb" from an SSH prompt (I assume you know how to do this, too) 3) Respring (or reboot) to make the app icon appear 4) Run the following commands over SSH: (to make it work on iPhone 3.1.2) cd /private/var/mobile/Library/Caches ln -s Maps/MapTiles/ MapTiles 4) Install the latest version of GMDL from http://www.in7ane.com/psp/ 5) Download the map cache, following these instructions: Once downloaded and running the program navigate to the area that you want to cache and click on the " Preview 1x", button to see what it would look like. In the Preview it doesnt matter if there is alot of surrounding area that you do not want on your map or if the area you want isnt centered in the preview you can fix all this in the next step. After you are satisfied with your preview click on "Download The Map", and make a new folder where you want to save the temp map files and select it, (A folder on desktop is the easiest). It will now break the map u selected into tiles and you can uncheck the parts you do not want to make the map size smaller. You should also uncheck the 1x and 2x Zoom boxes because as you can see in the size preview they will dramatically reduce the size and they are useless as you cannot see any extra detail. Once you have done that click on the massive selection button on the top and let it download. Once it has downloaded click in the ->iPhone Button and click on "Process". Once that has finished you have created your Cache File. 6) When you finishing make your offline map, please make sure that this folder must include with following files: MapTiles.sqlitedb: the google map caches database com.apple.Maps.plist: the iphone map coordinate 7) Please put the map folder into your iphone at /var/mobile/Media/Maps ,if "Maps" dictionary is not exist, then you should create one. using this script "mkdir -p /var/mobile/Media/Maps", the title of the map folder should not be more than 4 letters, for example: NY or LA ,don't use NewYork or Los Angeles 8) Launch OfflineMaps, and you should see the map that you just created. Choose the map, and select "copy" (not link) 9) When this completes, you should be able to quit the app, and it should display your map name as a badge. 10) Fire up the maps app, and enjoy your map without a network connection. Bookmarks appear to work OK, but I'm not sure how to get routes saved into OfflineMaps yet. Anyone else get that working?

It would just need to run sasalove's command (above) to fix things. Another good thing to implement would be a setup directory. If anyone has checked out OffMaps, it seems to be a much easier in app system. Problem is, it costs $2.99 in the AppStore.

Open it and write cd /private/var/mobile/Library/Caches [press enter] then I wrote ln -s Maps/MapTiles MapTiles [press enter] The command was accepted. Then I went to the Offline Maps apps, and press the map that I wanted and select copy. Now it is working.

30HowTo (How to use OM on iPhone 3.0.) Wiki page commented on by mrzzheng   -   Just to let you know after upgrading to 3.1.2 (jb-ed), the '0755/0555' trick doesn't work any more.. I wrote several scripts which worked perfectly at 3.1, but now it sucks!! Map file reduced from 100M to 400k even if i chmod as before! Any new tweaks?

30HowTo (How to use OM on iPhone 3.0.) Wiki page commented on by stefanob...@libero.it   -   is it possible to let it work on 3.1? i think the problem is that maps cache now is in a new folder different from 3.0 /private/var/mobile/Library/Caches/Maps/MapTiles on3.1 /private/var/mobile/Library/Caches/MapTiles/ on3.0 and another question is does maps enhancer work with this change? i didn't try

issue 52 (script Atlas.app didn't work after OS 3.0.1. upgrade) reported by lukasz.stachowiak   -   The problem is: Application Atlas.app 1. no map import 2. no map is copied using copy or link method Before upgrade from OS 3.0 I used Atlas.app using copy map method. Link method doesn't make any positive effect, but script copied maps (only files about 50MB. Files above 100MB are unreadable, I don't know why, but this is no main case). After upgrade to OS 3.0.1 Atlas.app didn’t make any action copying or importing maps. In /var/mobile/Library/Caches/MapTiles/ directory there is still this same file, even after clear cache data. I can't import maps, but if I put manually in /var/mobile/Library/Caches/MapTiles/, Maps.app can read maps. There is no possibility to import and manage even small maps. Have you got any idea why script didn't work properly? iPhone first gen., OS 3.0.1

WhiteBoard (Package discussion) Wiki page commented on by jychong1   -   I am very interested in how route.plist or direction.plist is formatted... what information do the file contain in order to show the route? how do application use this value to draw the route? If anyone knows this, please tell me via email (jychong1@gmail.com) Thanks.

30HowTo (How to use OM on iPhone 3.0.) Wiki page commented on by LauraCYip   -   I am confused. Offline Maps 2.1.0.4 isn't working at all. There is only a link option, which of course does not work. It tells me there are no routes or bookmarks to import. What is wrong?

30HowTo (How to use OM on iPhone 3.0.) Wiki page commented on by enfenion   -   I made a bash-script to switch between different maps. It's not the best implementation (it is quite slow because it copies the whole maps to link it). *map.sh* {{{ #!/bin/bash if [ $# -eq 1 ] then FILE=$PWD"/"$1"MapTiles.sqlitedb" if [ ! -f $FILE ] then echo "File not found: "$FILE exit fi echo "Restoring permissions. Wiki page commented on by keg.2kay   -   here is a quick way to do set the MapTiles? folder to read only: if you do not have it already go grab mobile terminal from cydia then use the following command from the "mobile" directory (its the default starting point for terminal so as long as you haven't cd any where you should be fine): no "?" on the end <-- google does that for some reason chmod 555 Library/Caches/MapTiles and to set it back to default: chmod 755 Library/Caches/MapTiles
